My personal impression is that plant people (Well, this term is not correct, since I know most of them also have fish tanks...) are either more experienced aquarists or real plant specialists who started their aquarium hobby not for the fish but for the water-green scenary.
In general, they left the plants alone, but I did have one decimate a lawn of Glossostigma in a 2 1/2G tank when he went without feeding for 10 days when we were on vacation.
I have shrimp with spots so faint that they are almost undetectable and others with large, pronounced spots in-line along the length of the shrimp's tail.

This is a plant I would like to grow here in Northcentral Florida, zone 8b, as I grew it years ago in St. Petersburg, Florida, zone 9b, but unfortunately it is more tender than the salmon and red shrimp plants which will survive in the ground here, if protected.
This plant glows and is in all aspects far superior to red/pink shrimp plant which fades into the background.
I planted it in my garden and it survived temperatures as low as 28 F on a few nights this Winter with no apparent frost or freeze damage.
