One phenomenon of the Edo Era was Okage Mairi -- the special pilgrimage to the Ise-Jingu Shrine.
Traditionally, pilgrims would affix these seals to the gates of each temple or shrine on the circuit as a testament to their visit; this practice was halted in modern times to protect aging temple structures.
The pilgrim pays the custodian at each temple or shrine to stamp/inscribe their book as proof of their visit.

I bought that book this fall because it had two argyle sock patterns in it, the baby and adult.
Also the pattern in the Vogue Socks book was not as detailed with the bobbin directions as the Argyle sock pattern from Cast On.
I saw the Folk Vests book at Barnes and Noble last week and there were some beautiful, intricate vests.

These are found in books and artefacts produced in monasteries of Ireland, Scotland and Northern England.
In particular (in order of increasing complexity, not necessarily chronologically): panels of the Soicel Molaise book-shrine, horizontal borders of the eagle page of the Book of Dimma, a panel of the St Madoes Stone, vertical borders of the lion page of the Book of Durrow and the knot design in the Book of Kells.

Sebastian Athapilly, Provincial Superior of Devamatha invited His Eminence to release the book giving some introduction to the Shrine where the relics of Apostle St. Thomas was brought in 1953 by Eugene Cardinal Tisserant.
The Cardinal presented a locket depicting St. Thomas with the three Magii as depicted in the Cologne Cathedral for the shrine.
