| | Turtle Expedition 8/96 (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-09-12) |
 | | This was to be a possible "stepping stone" in route to Tuva, but its chaotic streets, unfriendly GAI, (Russian road police), and a general feeling of disorder caused us to bolt straight through town and head south to Abakan, (53o 44' N / 91o 28' E). |
 | | South of Abakan, a short side road took us to the sleepy town of Shushenskoye, (53o 17' N / 91o 51' E), where we were graciously given an after-hours private tour of the fascinating Museum-Preserve Memorial of Lenin's Siberian Exile. |
 | | Leaving Shushenskoye, we climbed steeply into the beautiful Sheshlir Tayga mountains, part of the Sayan range. |
