Shuttlepod One (Enterprise episode) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
During a shuttlepod mission, Tucker and Reed are cut off from Enterprise and become convinced the starship has been destroyed and that their days are numbered.
Onboard Shuttlepod One, Trip and Reed are attempting to locate the Enterprise in an asteroid field that Archer was planning to map.
The shuttlepod is then rocked by an impact which breaches the hull.

Trip had rigged to the shuttlepod to emit a simulated warp field in order to perform a few theoretical tests regarding the local phenomena.
Shuttlepod One was only one more day away from being ready, or at least as ready as it would ever be, and at the end of the day, Tucker was grateful to have a place of his own.
The shuttlepod had been in no condition to fly when it had been brought in, but, with a moderate amount of assistance, Tucker had made the craft space-worthy again.

Grey goo - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
On the entity's planet, T'Pol, Reed, Phlox and Hoshi land in a shuttlepod and release the entity at the coordinates given earlier.
As the shuttlepod returns to the Enterprise, dawn breaks and the area is revealed to be covered with one huge grey organism.
Granted this "organism" would be labeled "green goo" due to being biological and not a nanotechnological (mechanical) entity, but the entity is related to grey goo due to appearance and hyper-assimilation actions.

Both shuttlepods have a printed range of only two, and are hampered even more by transporting crews with more than five personnel under your command.
Assuming three dilemmas are overcome after your first attempt with nine personnel, you can report a shuttlepod to the mission on your next turn, beam non-essential personnel off the primary ship and attempt with five (possibly including Rabal and Kelby), giving your opponent only two counters (without modifiers) to spend on dilemmas.
Many other variations of this scenario are possible, and you are likely wise to adjust this strategy based on the type of dilemma pile your opponent is using, but it is at least an option for a fast way to reduce the overall number of dilemmas you must face.

As I said at the outset, "Shuttlepod One" was going to succeed or fail based on how much it made us care about these two men -- and anyone who wasn't drawn in by this probably won't be drawn in by these characters at all.
"Shuttlepod One" is a show that could have easily turned out miserable rather than marvelous -- but this all just clicked and came together nicely.

 Shuttlepod - Memory Alpha
In starship classification, a shuttlepod is a smaller type of shuttlecraft which is usually only capable of impulse propulsion or low-warp speed capacity.
This designation is given to small craft that do not have passenger capacity like their larger relatives.
The smaller shuttlepods were introduced during the second season of Star Trek: The Next Generation to alleviate the costs associated with building exteriors and mockups of the larger, more elaborate types of warp-capable passenger shuttles.
