Syama Prasad Mookerjee (or Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, Bengali: শ্যামা প্রসাদ মুখার্জী) was a nationalist political leader of India, and is considered the godfather of modern Hindutva and Hindu Nationalism.
Mookerjee was born on July 6, 1901 in Calcutta, a major Indian city and capital of Bengal.
His father was Sir Ashutosh Mukherjee, a well respected advocate in Bengal, who became the Vice Chancellor of the University of Calcutta, and his mother was Lady Jogmaya Devi Mookerjee.

M.Rama Jois, on Tuesday paid rich tribute to the late Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, whom he described as a great patriot, orator and parliamentarian, who had fought a relentless battle against the Government's "policy of appeasement" even at an early stage.
Jois also reminded the BJP that it had inherited the lofty ideals of the Jan Sangh that was founded by Mukherjee, and said unless it strived to "establish clean politics", there was no ray of hope for the country.

June 21: The Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Smarak Samiti has demanded a Central-level investigation into the circumstances leading to the death of Shyama Prosad Mukherjee in Sringar in 1953.
According to Sikdar, when a team had gone to bring back Mukherjee's body from Srinagar they had found in the cell where he was imprisoned a number of empty vials of streptomycin injections, though streptomycin was not referred to be used by doctors in case of Mukherjee's system.
In a related matter, Sikdar revealed that on the occasion of the birth centenary of Mukherjee, it had come to light that Mukherjee had helped Kazi Nazrul Islam financially to publish his book of poems Agniveena, which was banned by the British government.
