In Karo language the word of Sibayak refers to individuals who established a permanent settlement (Kuta) and controled the land around the village for the use of the people who lived there.

The Sibayak Geothermal Field has been investigated by various geo-scientific methods since 1989, continued by drilling 10 wells including 3 exploratory wells, 2 reinjection wells and 5 development wells.
However, considerable problems are still faced in the Sibayak Geothermal Field such as high acidic (corrosive) hot water in the vicinity of Mt Sibayak and scaling problem occurs in several wells located around the southern Singkut caldera rim.

Risks: Gg Sibayak is not a dangerous mountain (assuming you take one of the well-trodden trails) and hiring a guide from a reputated guesthouse may seem like a waste of money to an experienced climber.

The oldest is the Wisma Sibayak, cheap but too bare boned for us after just staying in Bukit Lawang for a couple of days.
The Sibayak's friendly daughter in law ran the Losman Sibayak Guest House which was still a little too bare bone for us.

The area is pretty with some grandiose villas and great views over Brastagi, toward Gunung Sibayak, and towards Gunung Sinabung.

The peak is around 2000m and you have to climb 700m to get there.
It was still atmospheric, very much a volcano in shape with a pool of water in the crater and jets of steam coming out of yellow sulpur stained holes.
