The accident was caused by a metal debris from another plane bursting one of the Concorde's tires, which ruptured a fuel tank, creating a fire that led to engine failure.
The fatal accident — the first and only in Concorde's history — led to a one year inturruption in the use the aircraft until it is modified to make it resistant to similar hazards.
