Trelawney does not seem able to predict on demand, as becomes clear when Dolores Umbridge requires one during her inspection (OP 314-315).

Trelawney's tendency to predict the death of one of her students over and over each year, although such predictions have never been known to come to pass, certainly does not help her credibility as a seer much.
The name "Sibyll" is a reference to the Sibyls of ancient Greece, who were oracles that made cryptic predictions about the future which often could not be understood until they had already come to pass.
Eventually, she was sacked by Umbridge, who, in her great dislike for Trelawney, almost threw her bodily from the castle, ignoring the fact that Trelawney was in paroxysms of grief over her dismissal.

Trelawney put on her very best dress, the better to entice loveable Lupin: "She had put on a green sequined dress in honor of the occasion, making her look more than ever like a glittering, oversized dragonfly" (228).
Trelawney thought (or hoped) as she spoke to the Headmaster that Lupin was overhearing her talking about the crystal ball, and she was probably even trying to hint to him about the "promptings of fate" (wink, wink, Lupin, you are afraid of love, but it's your destiny!
Trelawney had not yet had a good look at the people sitting around the table, and she obviously had one particular person in mind when she joined them: "Eyes open again, she looked around once more and said, 'But where is dear Professor Lupin?'" (229; my emphasis).

Sibyll is so hyper-sensitive about Firenze that I'm not sure she can be objective about anything connected with him.
He may have ignored her question--or possibly said that her concern for the immediate was unimportant--and just focused on the long term view of things, something I suspect she would interpret as having been ridiculed.

Trelawney stapped short as Snape suddenly wrenched free and screamed at her.
Had he not been so thoroughly annoyed, Snape would have been stunned by the fact that Trelawney believed a quiet whisper was a scream - Snape never screamed, though once in a while he would yell at a student - and that she didn't know the difference between voluntary and involuntary assistance.

I think that she prophecised that a child born to the Potters would be Voldie's downfall, so he tries to kill the Potter's kid so he can't grow up and defeat Voldie..
Yeah, and that would quite suit JK because it would be a perfect example of a self-fulfilling prophecy like in Oedipus and all those ancient greek tragedies: Vol hears that Harry/Gryffindor's heir/ a Potter will be his downfall - he tries to kill Harry because of this - thereby walking right into his doom.

Professor Trelawney’s first name, Sibyll, is a reference to the fortune-tellers and prophetesses from Greek mythology known as sibyls.
Aeneas and the Sibyl encounter Cerberus, the three-headed guard dog of the Underworld (one of Fluffy’s ancestors, no doubt), and the Sibyl tosses him a honeyed wheat cake, which occupies him until they pass.
In fact, her relation to the noted prophetess was partly responsible for Professor Trelawney’s appointment to the post of Professor of Divination.

Professor Trelawney is supposed to be able to predict the future, but so far she has only made a couple of predictions that have actually come true.
As Professor McGonagall so kindly reminds us, "Sibyll Trelawney has predicted the death of one student a year, and none of them have died so far." That doesn’t seem to stop her, though, from predicting Harry’s death countless times throughout his third and fourth years.
Harry, Ron, and Hermione all think her lessons are phony, and nearing the end of the third year, Hermione walked out on one of her classes, never to come back.
