I will apply, for the benefit of the sick, all measures [that] are required, avoiding those twin traps of overtreatment and therapeutic nihilism.
I will remember that there is art to medicine as well as science, and that warmth, sympathy, and understanding may outweigh the surgeon's knife or the chemist's drug.
I will remember that I do not treat a fever chart, a cancerous growth, but a sick human being, whose illness may affect the person's family and economic stability.

Since modern art is about anything you can imagine except art (in the classical sense), it can be anything; in fact is anything you may want it to be.
Since modern art is no more than "a high sounding nothing", to use Metternich's famous expression, this nothing needs a perpetual choir of apologists and elucidators, the noisier the better, to ensure that the crowds of pretentious fools that visit modern art exhibitions, and buy the ridiculously expensive catalogues, keep doing so.

In art, it brought us extreme abstraction resulting in a tendency to replaced conscious awareness with strictly personal symbolism - precisely the same thing that is most characteristic of mental illness in individual human beings.
After abstraction became established as the norm in art practice and art academia, another distorting element entered the scene: extreme narcissism, an excessive preoccupation with the self, a malady that in the case of the art world and its denizens went miles beyond garden variety self-absorption into extreme grandiosity.
