A Night in Sickbay (ENT episode) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
" A Night in Sickbay " is the title of a controversial episode of the UPN series, Star Trek: Enterprise which originally aired on October 16, 2002 in the United States.
A light-weight, comedic episode, "A Night in Sickbay" saw Captain Jonathan Archer dealing with a race of grouchy, officious aliens who are insulted when his dog, Porthos relieves himself on a sacred tree.
Nonetheless, it was still nominated for a Hugo Award, and continues to be cited by cast members as one of their favorite episodes.

Sickbay consists primarily of two main medical wards, though it also includes several of the science labs in other areas of the ship.

Due to the obviously emergency nature of the facilities, Sickbay is one of the few areas of the Galaxy that is staffed by Starfleet personnel at all times.

Sickbay and Dead Stop have proven something to me: Rick and Brannon weren't lying when they said ENT was going to be a radical departure.
Sickbay goes a long way to explicating what they're trying to do with ENT and whether I would choose that route or not doesn't impact on their ability to successfully fulfill the goal they've set for themselves.
Sickbay has finally proven to me that when Rick and Brannon said it was going to be a radical departure, they weren't talking in such simplistic terms as new sci-fi stories that we haven't seen.

TrekBBS: How did the stretchers get to sickbay?   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-05)
The actual way ambulances are often used is to drive like mad to the patient, then park the ambulance, grab some gear, and treat the patient in situ - and later possibly drive her slowly to the hospital to avoid inflicting further injury.
Similarly, transporting the patient to sickbay posthaste may not be a good idea at all, compared with lifting her to a stretcher that gives her vital treatment all the way to the turbolift.
I don't think there ever were cases where a Trek doctor would examine a patient planetside, then ask to be beamed to the transporter room, and then move him or her to a stretcher.
