Sid Davis - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Sid Davis (born April 1, 1916) was a United States social guidance film director and producer.
Davis' work is consistently about a relatively small group of themes: that strangers must be treated with caution, that the world itself is an unfriendly place, regardless of the presence of strangers, and that children must think before acting.
Davis became involved in the real estate market in Los Angeles during the 1950s, at a time when it was booming due to development resulting from the influx of people to work in the defense industry.

Boys Beware - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The film was released in 1961 and, through negligence of the copyright laws in the United States at the time of its release, lapsed into the public domain and is available from the Prelinger Moving Image archives.
The film was probably the most infamous of all Sid Davis's work, and has often been accused of equating homosexual men with child molesters.
Sid Davis was friends with the police in Southern California and would accept their suggestions of topics to make films about, allowing them to guide the films' message and development.

The documentary "Sid Vision” was honored October 25, 2003 for outstanding non-fiction film at the Angelus Awards in Los Angeles.
He tackled all danger topics and pulled no punches, and this documentary mixes a barrage of his clips with film experts — and Davis — who insist the approach is as relevant today as it was when students with horn-rimmed glasses first watched those horrific crashes and back-yard explosions.
The trio was fascinated with Davis, a former stand-in for actor John Wayne who borrowed $1,000 from The Duke to make a film that, Davis thought, adequately warned of strangers.

Already father to a young daughter, Sid had been shaken by the 1949 LA news report of a same-aged local girl who'd been molested.
From there Davis went on to vividly – if simplistically – limn the booby-trapping evils of alcohol, drugs, Communism, VD, hitchhiking, hot rodding, malicious gossiping, being a smarty-pants, playing with scissors (not to mention abandoned refrigerators), and the proverbial accepting of candy from strangers.
Perhaps most notorious in his prolific body of work is 1961's Boys Beware, 10 minutes of deadpan hysteria in which male homosexuals, possessed by "a sickness of the mind," are categorized as pederasts whose young victims usually end up dead.
