Topic: Side by Side (song)

A-side and B-side - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Songs that were not part of an artist's collection of albums are made available through the same downloadable catalogs as tracks from their albums, and are usually referred to as "unreleased," "non-album," "rare," or "exclusive" tracks, the latter in the case of a song being available solely from a certain provider of music.
Since both sides of a single received equal royalties, some composers deliberately arranged for their songs to be used as the B-sides of singles by popular artists, thereby making a fortune literally off the back of the A-side.
A double A-side is a single which has two featured songs, rather than the traditional single with a featured song, the A-side, and an accompanying one on the flip of the record, the B-side.

 Side By Side By Sondheim
Now it is Louise Gold's turn, as she stars side by side with David Kernan, Robert Meadmore, and Liz Robertson in Side By Side By Sondheim at the Civic Theatre in Chelsmford.
A song sung by a man who has recently married a girl who is a virgin (and determined to stay that way) to an old flame, who (in this production at any rate) is clearly far from being a virgin.
The song suits her very well, for she is a versatile performer who has done a lot in her extraordinary career, such as: cracked whips, turned into a fox and a radio, blown a trumpet, climbed pianos, performed puppets, and many many other things besides.

Many of the songs are truly funny because of the scenario they create or the wordplay they employ.

The next number was one of the very high spots of the evening, namely the magnificent Millicent Martin doing a song that had been in her repertoire for many years before she first did Side By Side and actually learnt who had written the song, The Boy From.
Personally I prefer this song done by an actress, and in a way I kind of wished that the magnificent Millie had done it – after all she did it here 25 years ago, and it must suit her so well.

It just stinks of a cheap publicity stunt to raise Jersey's profile (not the "side by side" message as that was meant in good faith) that has wrongly jumped on the back of a noble cause which has raised money for thousands left homeless.

This particular manifestation is BlueRidge and the band's newest album, Side by Side.
The mandolin provides the majority of the melody and leads the song on a winding, sinuous route that showcases every band member's skill.
The band members' skill as well as their adherence to tradition make Side by Side a great album to have around whenever we go through one of those trendy, "Let's hear some real pure music!" phases.

The new 'Red Red Red' is a clever reimagining of the song, and it points up one of the problems with Brion's production: there's just a hell of a lot of it.
And the new refrain is too slow and played in a 6/8 feel, meaning the stuttering contrasts of the song are made murky, even more awkward.
Apple's unfortunate dissatisfaction with the original affords us a unique opportunity to dig deeper into her music and lyrics; if the new arrangements are by far the least interesting aspect of the Machine story, they've played an important role.

Costello and Bacharach: Side By Side
As it happens, Elvis Costello had actually recorded a Burt Bacharach song, the plaintive "I Just Don't Know What to Do With Myself," before he recorded his debut album, 1977's "My Aim Is True." He also covered Bacharach's "Please Stay" on 1995's "Kojak Variety," a collection of songs close to Costello's heart.
According to Costello, growing up listening to Bacharach songs on the radio made him a fan of pop music long before he knew much about songcraft in general, or Bacharach's gifts specifically.
Early on, it became apparent that "Painted From Memory" would be a song cycle about love, and particularly about what one song dubs "the glorious distress" of romantic failure.

Bibey's self-penned instrumental, "Avalanche" burns a few barns enroute, but his lead vocals on his original ballad, "Side by Side," seemed to lack some energy, perhaps as a result of arranging the song in the lower region of Bibey's vocal range.
All of the songs only span two to three minutes, and this effectively places the emphasis on the songs themselves, while the instrumental accompaniment supplements their messages.
However, he rose to the challenge and imparts some breaks and rhythmic intensity to "Side by Side" that are remarkably powerful.
