Nara (Sanskrit) [cf Sanskrit nri, Zend nar, Greek aner Latin nero] A man; in the Mahabharata and the Puranas, sometimes used as an equivalent for cosmic Purusha -- the primordial universal Man, or the hierarchical essence pervading the solar system often associated with Narayana, both being considered as cosmic rishis.
Naras are described as being "Centaurs, men with the limbs of horses and human bodies" (SD 2:65n).
Here nara applies to the cosmogonical Logos, and ayana to the emanationary and evolutionary activity of the Logos in the waters of space, which are really the manifested form of Nara or Nara itself.

We took the JR local train to Nara after breakfast and headed into Nara-koen, the big park there that shelters a large number of Unesco World Heritage sites in its leafy province, with sacred deer wandering here and there.
Leaving the park and heading back to the train station, we stopped at the Kofuku-ji temple, which has two pagodas, one a 3-tier effort, and the other a magnificent 5-tier erection that is the second tallest in Japan.
Nara had a good vibe and we were in the right mood to walk the tourist route between station and park, bedecked with fake autumn momiji.

When NARA took custody of Nixon's records in 1977, it said it needed archivists of "special integrity" to screen the tapes and files.
The law calls on NARA to return to Nixon (now his estate) "personal" material but to open to the public disclosable information "of general historical significance." Millions of documents and hundreds of hours of tapes await release.
Taylor, who served as Nixon's chief of staff in the post-White House years, described his anger when "we were told that the Hardy Boys at NARA had kept a little list -- 201 additional fun-filled hours of their own greatest hits." NARA didn't open those tapes until 1996, two years after Nixon died.

The Nara desert wildlife sanctuary is home to several species of plants and animals, besides being rich in mineral resources.
However, the logging mafia, backed by influential local figures, has reportedly taken over parts of the area and is engaged in the indiscriminate cutting down of trees that, besides having medicinal properties, have for years provided shade, shelter and fodder to desert wildlife including some rare species.
It seems to be a self-imposed siege because our ruling elite which includes the civil-military bureaucracy, the big business, the Chaudhries, the Khans, the waders, the sardars and the media tycoons, has not yet unlearnt the lessons of governance that it had learnt from our colonial rulers.

It was in Nara that Buddhism first appeared in Japan and reached its peak in 752 when Diahutsu, the world's largest bronze statue of Buddha, was completed in the Todaiji Temple.
It also seems that these shrines are devoted to particular aspects of life, such as the Love Shrine at Kiyomizu Temple and this one to animals at Todaiji Temple.

On July 23rd a Republican officer reached Colonel Moscardo, the leader of the sieged place, by telephone within the Alcazar and he was informed that Republican forces had kidnapped his 16 year old son, Luis and unless he surrended immediately, Luis would be executed.
To prove that they had his son, he was put to the phone to speak to his father.
