  Kuki Yoshitaka - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In 1587, he led Toyotomi Hideyoshi's fleet in a campaign in Kyushu, alongside Konishi Yukinaga, Wakizaka Yasuharu and Kato Yoshiaki.
Three years later, along with Wakizaka Yasuharu and Kato Yoshiaki he went on to lead the Siege of Odawara and the Siege of Shimoda.
He continued in his role as commander of Hideyoshi's fleet, launching an invasion of Korea in 1592 from his flagship Nipponmaru.

In 1868 the last of the Tokugawa shogun's forces was defeated in a siege of Hakodate's Goryokaku fort, a victory celebrated each year in mid-May with a period costume parade through the town.
A much larger parade is held during the Hakodate Port Festival, from August 1 to 5, when 20,000 people in cotton kimono and straw hats perform the "squid dance", an entertaining jig where hands are flapped and clapped in time to rhythmic drumming.

The siege of Shimoda was a naval siege conducted against a coastal Late Hojo clan fortress in Izu Province.
This was concurrent with the larger Siege of Odawara (1590), and though the commanders of the besieging force were among Hideyoshi's greatest generals, they were held off by a mere 600 defenders for four months.

Kûki fought in the Komaki Campaign (1584), assisting Takigawa Kazumasu with the capture of Kanie, one of Oda Nobuo's castles in Ise.
Kûki led ships during the Invasion of Kyushu (1587), and in 1590 joined the campaign to subdue the Hojo and teamed with Chosokabe Motochika, Wakizaka Yasuharu, and Kato Yoshiaki in naval maneuvers along the Izu and Sagami coast, including the siege of Shimoda.
Kûki went on to command ships during the Invasions of Korea (1592-93, 97-98) and was defeated along with Kato Yoshiaki by the Korean admiral Yi Sun Shin at Angolpo (June 1592).

Although a priest by trade, Ekei led men for both Hideyoshi and Môri Terumoto.
In the Odawara Campaign (1590) he was present at the Siege of Shimoda and in the Korean Campaigns (1592-93, 1597-98) he served on Terumoto's staff.
Letters sent by Ekei to Terumoto further indicate that Ekei's duties went beyond advice - although his advice would prove most important and unfortunate for the future of the môri after Hideyoshi's death.
