Siemens kindly handed out some of these machines at a recent Microsoft conference telling us they were pre-release stock (official release seems to be due in a Jan 2002).
Unfortunately the SX45 I have does not have GPRS and the nice man from Siemens I spoke to could not say if/when GPRS would be included.
When the SX45 starts ringing and you dive for your bag (as it won’t be in your jacket pocket), by the time it takes to locate the headphones, plug them in (to the SX45 and your ears) the caller will be in voicemail land.

Siemens tries hard with its Pocket PC GPRS handheld, but in the end this is just another "communicator" -- and a disappointing one at that.
Siemens’ entry into the beltware war, the SX45, starts off with good intentions by offering GPRS for high-speed data access across the GSM network.
Unfortunately, both for Siemens and their would-be customers, the SX45 is already teetering on the brink of obsolescence.

 SIEMENS SX45 - Mobile phones - Review - www.pcauthority.com.au
A seemingly new entrant to the PDA market, the Siemens SX45 is a Pocket PC PDA that may appear familiar to users or owners of the Cassiopeia range.
Similar in nature to the Handspring Treo 180 (page 42), the Siemens SX45 is a much larger beast forgoing the Treo's mobile phone like dimensions for a bigger body that offers a superior full colour screen instead of monochrome.
A final draw back to the SX45 is that the Cassiopeia e-125 is retailing for around $1,600 to $1,700 depending on which company you check, which means that the SX45's phone functionality adds an extra $500-600 onto the total price.

A chronic gap of Siemens in manufacturing smartphones became a reason for releasing SK65 model that is supposed to replace such models in some kind and attract the attention of business users.
Smartphone history for Siemens lasts for several years only and Andromeda (or Siemens SX45) was the first model.

Siemens readies SX45 - infoSync World
Originally intended to feature GPRS, the SX45 will in its first edition be a GSM-only device as a result of Siemens' difficulties with implementing GPRS properly in the new device.
This means that software has to be compiled specifically for the SX45, and given the fact that the market appeal for such a device when it runs Pocket PC 2000 combined with a possibly high price tag and Europeans not yet being used to such devices, the SX45 might face a rough introduction period.
On an interesting side note; we happen to know that Siemens is currently negotiating whether to produce a Pocket PC 2002-based successor to the SX45, and such a product would undoubtedly be met with great expectation as it is what's the future will be made of.

As a result of a collaboration on the hardware side between Casio and Siemens (it even as the Cassiopeia logo embossed on its back), it weighs close to 300g and is 2 cm thick - which almost gives the impression that it's a PDA with a tacked-on radio module.
Having the ability to use other applications on the device while engaged in a conversation using the handsfree set is also a benefit, but at the same time it's a major flaw; the SX45i cannot receive or place a call without the handsfree set being connected.
