Voivodships are governed by voivod Governments and their legislatures are called Voivodship sejmiks.
In place of the three-level administrative division (voivodship, county, commune), a new two-level administrative division was introduced (49 small voivodships and communes).
In 1950 new voivodships were created: Koszalin - previously part of Szczecin, Opole - previously part of Katowice, and Zielona Góra - previously part of Poznań, Wrocław and Szczecin voivodships.

Stanislaw, squire of Kobylany, Sendomir Voivodship, married Anna Mijakowska.
Jan Akszak, at one time assistant to the voivode, transferred to Kijow where he served as land adjudicator, performed his duty to country loyally, was appointed by many Sejms (Diets) to commissions such as, in 1607, to select suitable sites in the Ukraine for fortifications.
The sons of Jan and Barbara nee Klonska were: Marek, who spent his last years in the royal prison; Stefan, land adjudicator of Kiev, subperfect of Ostrzew and Bobrowniki, who appeared as Deputy of the Radom Tribunal while a delegate to the Sejm in Warsaw in 1626.

In the time of the third partition of Poland, 1795, Chmielnik was taken over by Austria and remained under its management until 1809, when she was attached to the Duchy of Warsaw.
Between 1815 and 1837, Chmielnik belonged to the Tzoozmirer (Sandomierz) voivodship of the Polish Kingdom and between 1837-1914 to the Kielce gubernia.
To the province of Krakow-Tzoozmir belonged the communities of the voivodship Krakow, Tzoozmir (Sandomierz), a portion of Kujawy and Leczyca and a number of communities of the Rus' and Belz voivodships.
