  Signal transduction
In biology, signal transduction is any process by which a cell converts one kind of signal or stimulus into another.
The important value for the strength of the signal relayed by the receptor is the concentration of the hormone-receptor complex, which is defined by the affinity of the hormone for the receptor, the concentration of the hormone and, of course, the concentration of the receptor.

signalling cascade" or "second messenger pathway" and the result is that a small stimulus elicits a large response.
Signal transduction usually involves the binding of "extracellular" signaling molecules to receptors that face outwards from the membrane and trigger events inside.
Juxtacrine signals are transmitted along cell membranes via protein or lipid components integral to the membrane and are capable of affecting either the emitting cell or cells immediately adjacent.

 PSORT Users' Manual
The signal sequence of lipoproteins, i.e., proteins with a covalently attached lipid molecule in their mature N-terminus, are essentially the same as those of usual proteins except the region around their cleavage sites.
PSORT postulates that the proteins with N-terminal signal sequence will be transported to the cell surface by default unless they have any other signals for specific retention or commitment; a luminal protein will be secreted constitutively to the extracellular space and a membrane protein will reside at the plasma membrane.
The retention signal of ER luminal proteins from the bulk flow is the existence of the sequence motif KDEL in the C-terminus.

MalSig - Malaria Signal Sequence Predictions
Sequences should begin with M. As the aim of this program is to predict classical and non-canonical secretory signals at or near the N-terminus of a protein it is important that the N-terminal region of the protein sequence is present.
The protein sequences are sent externally to these sites and cleavage sites (or in the case of PlasmoAP apicoplast target peptide predictions) are returned for each sequence and displayed in a table alongside fuzzy predictions.
When a protein sequence is entered the program first generates a hydrophobicity plot and uses this to calculate values for where the hydrophobic region starts, its length, and the maximum value of hydrophobicity in the region.

Exercise 2: Neural Network Prediction of Signal Peptides
These are short, N-terminal amino acid sequences that cause a protein to be exported out of the cell and that are usually cleaved off after the protein has been transported across the membrane.
Signal peptides are not generally homologous, but instead have a number of common properties that are recognized by the secretion system.
Generally signal peptides are shorter than this, and in fact submitting longer sequences may sometimes lead to false positive predictions.

Subsequently, signal recognition particle interacts with its membrane receptor and the ribosome-bound nascent chain is targeted to the ER where it is transferred into a protein-conducting channel.
The signal sequence of most secretory and membrane proteins is cleaved off at this stage.
The signal peptidase complex is possibly also involved in proteolytic events in the ER membrane other than the processing of the signal sequence, for example the further digestion of the cleaved signal peptide or the degradation of membrane proteins.

 Protein Kinesis
The signal sequence consists of the first portion of the elongating polypeptide chain (so the signal sequence occurs at the amino terminal of the polypeptide).
the signal sequence is usually clipped off the polypeptide unless the polypeptide is to be retained as an integral membrane protein.
They are targeted to the nucleus by their nuclear localization sequence, a sequence of 7 - 41 amino acids of which the basic amino acids lysine and arginine are characteristic members.

UWB Radio | RF Design - direct-sequence UWB signal generation, UWB radio
The transition from discrete spectral lines to a “continuous” spectrum display is due to the ratio of measurement span (bandwidth of the signal) and the resolution filter of the spectrum analyzer.
By considering the pulsed signal as BPSK and entering a symbol period that matches the clock frequency of the baseband signal, even the frequency error can be measured.
Therefore, the exact spectral shape of the test signal is not as significant for sensitivity testing as it would be if the source had to meet the transmitter test mask.

Two types of signals are known to cause pausing and/or termination by T7 RNAP (7, 8).
PTH signal was in the NT strand of the heteroduplex (lane 4).
Failure to terminate at the PTH signal under these circumstances might be due either to failure of the RNAP to interact with elements in the free RNA product (due to its hybridization with the T strand) or failure to reconstitute the PTH signal into duplex DNA.

In the process of protein secretion, amino-terminal signal sequences are key recognition elements; however, the relation between the primary sequence of an amino-terminal peptide and its ability to function as an export signal remains obscure.
The limits of variation permitted for functional signal sequences were determined by replacement of the normal signal sequence of Saccharomyces cerevisiae invertase with essentially random peptide sequences.
Since about one-fifth of these sequences can function as an export signal the specificity with which signal sequences are recognized must be very low.
