Treaty establishing a Constitution for Europe - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The rejection of the constitution in the referenda in France and the Netherlands, made the TCE's future and the implementation of its provisions highly uncertain, provoking a crisis of confidence in the project which has resulted, at least initially, in a degree of strategic paralysis.
Eurosceptics (particularly in the United Kingdom) saw it as entrenching a European superstate, whilst socialists (particularly in France) alleged that it is a sort of neoliberal Washington consensus for Europe.
Opponents to neoliberalism maintain their initial viewpoint, in favour of European integration, but against antisocial policies (it may be compared to the November 2005 Mar del Plata Summit of the Americas and to its opposition to the Free Trade Area of the Americas).
