The Battle of Siikajoki was fought between Swedish and Russian troops on April 18, 1808 at Siikajoki, near Oulu, Finland.

 The Russo-Swedish War of 1808-09
The Swedes delivered battle under the new commander, Adlercreutz, at Siikajoki in mid-April and they were victorious.
Meanwhile the Swedish stronghold of Sveaborg surrendered to the Russians in the south and all resistance in those parts of the country ceased.
The Russians were forced further and further south and the Swedish fought with such bravery that the Tsar had to send reinforcements from St. Petersburg.

At Siikajoki, Tauvo 108 patches were found and marked.
Material was collected from about 50 patches at Tauvo, Siikajoki, two patcHes at Savilahti, Siikajoki, 30 patcHes at Väliteonkari, Hailuoto and from 25 locations of the borders of Isomatala population, Hailuoto.

 Lacko Castle, Kallandso
In 1746 Frederick I had the portrait of Jacob de la Gardie in the Knights' Hall (which was richly decorated with murals depicting scenes from the Thirty Years War) removed to Stockholm, where it can now be seen in the Military Academy on the Karlsberg.
In 1810 Lackö Castle was granted to General Carl Johan Adlercreutz, victor in the battle of Siikajoki, and renamed Siikajoki.
In 1920 it was thoroughly restored, and since 1965 it has belonged to the Västergötland Tourist Association, which puts on exhibitions in the castle in summer.

On the 18th of April, 1808, after an orderly retreat from the Russians, Adlercreutz reached the community of Siikajoki - about 50 km south of Oulu.
Whilst not so ambitious (yet...) I would like to raise a small company of the King's Ostrobothnian Regiment here in the Oulu area, where we would try to re-create events from the battle of Siikajoki, the war, and of the time period in general.
People would have to be prepared to help start a group from stratch - i.e., we would start with no costumes, no equipment, and no real idea how to proceed From there we would make, or get made, period costumes and equipment.

Gloe lakes are a special type of freshwater lake which has become naturally separated from the sea in recent times; flads refer to such formations before the separation is complete and the site still has some contact with the sea.
Other types of lake and river wetlands, estuaries and bays are described as bird-lakes or bird wetlands such as Rantasalmi, Lapväärtti, Rääkkylä and Kitee, Heinä-Suvanto and Hetejärvi, Haapavesi and Hailuoto Island, and Siikajoki.
The four main adjacent shore areas around Siikajoki consisting of capes, a river estuary, mires and shoals, which together form a unique wetland unit for breeding and migrating bird fauna.

It is probable that the Sipolas had moved to Luohua from Sipola village at Rantsila where this family name appears in the church files for a long time.

 Carl Johan Adlercreutz
This was where the plan failed - Sveaborg surrendered without a fight and insufficient reinforcements arrived from Sweden.
At the battle of Siikajoki, on April 18 1808, Adlercreutz turned a defeat into victory as he gave the order to attack, despite the Klingspor's objections.
During the summer campaign of 1808, Adlercreutz came to the test time upon time and he showed his worth on the field of battle.

Of note, Pudas was born in Siikajoki, Finland in 1899 and coached Canada's 1936 Olympic hockey team to a silver medal at the Games in Garmisch-Partinkerchen, Germany.
He played four games for the Toronto St. Patricks between December 1926 and January 1927, and is the first Finn to ever play for the organization now known as the Maple Leafs, for all you trivia buffs.
