	Sijsele: a bit different
		Sijsele is a bit different compared to all the other villages in Damme and this because it's not situated in the polders, but in the sandarea.
		The court of justice of Sijsele was situated in Bruges, on the Burg to be exact.
		The destruction of the castle of Sijsele was caused by a wrong political choice of one of the lords: Jan van Sijsele chose the side of the French king in 1302.

		Sijsele still can boast of with 2 mills: the village mill in the center of Sijsele and the Akkermolen besides the Antwerpse Heirweg, in the direction of Donk.
		Grinding they don't do anymore, because both have been stripped of their wings (the Akkermolen also has been undone of his cap), and now remain in the landscape as a memory of what was once a flourishing agricultural activity.
		The village mill stands in the center of Sijsele, near the Molenstraat (where else?) and has been converted to a house.
