	Sikorsky S-55
		Developed by Sikorsky during the late 1940s, the Model S-55 made its first flight in November 1949.
		In ten years, Sikorsky produced 1067 S-55 s in military version for no fewer than 30 operators throughout the world.
		The most distinctive feature of the Sikorsky aircraft was the location of the engine in the nose, to enable the cabin to be placed at the center of gravity, thus allowing for considerable variations in payload without affecting stability.

		This is from the period just before Sikorsky joined with United Aircraft and Transport Corp. The company was still located at College Point, L. Brochure shows and discusses the earlier Whirlwind powered S-36 and describes improvements resulting in the Pratt and Whitney "Wasp" powered S-38.
		The slide photo (2-7/8" x 2") has been copied from the Sikorsky press release of the aircraft and although dated 1933 is from a 1931 picture.

		The Sikorsky (model S-55), initially procured in November 1949, was the World's first transport helicopter.
		In addition, the British firm, WESTLAND AIRCRAFT/HELICOPTER Ltd, built 364 of these venerable aircraft under license from SIKORSKY and named them the WS-55 WHIRLWIND.
