Sikorsky helicopters occupy a prominent position in the intermediate to heavy range of 11,700 lb (5,300 kg.) to 73,500 lb (33,000 kg.) gross weight.

  Sea Kings
Sea Kings have been the workhorses of the fleet for over 40 years now, and have delivered excellent service for a large portion of that time.
However, the sonar system is antiquated, and the Sea Kings are now somewhat of a weak link for the warships that carry them (in addition to their increasing unreliability).
The government has selected the new Sikorsky H-92 to replace the Sea King, but these helicopters must be converted for use off warships and will not be ready until 2008 at the earliest.

Igor Sikorsky and his design team discovered that if they moved the engine to the front of the cabin, closer to the axis of the main rotor, the center-of-gravity envelope became much larger.
