Negros Occidental Gov. Joseph Marañon urged officials of Silay City after its City Council junked the proposed P226 million budget for this year.
Marañon said the city’s executive and legislative bodies should compromise and find ways to work harmoniously to pass the budget.
The proposed budget was not passed after Councilor Ignacio Salmingo, chairman of the committee on finance, wanted to make some insertions and revisions on it.

In short, three of the four cities in the franchise area of CENECO, which are supposed to be the beneficiaries of the coal-fired power project, are rejecting the project.
The Sangguniang Panlungsod of Bacolod City has not passed a resolution opposing the project but several SP members, as well as the City Vice-Mayor and the Mayor, have publicly declared their opposition to it.
