The road between Anamur and Silifke passes through the pine clad mountains which descend to the sea offering splendid views of cliffs, coves and the brilliant turquoise waters of the Mediterranean.
Outside Silifke, on the road to Tasucu is the archaeological museum, while further on AyaTekla is the tomb and church of St. Thecla who was the first female martyr.
The road from Silifke to Mersin is very enjoyable along the coast; the ancient basilicas, tombs and ruins are on one side of the road and beautiful coves with sandy beaches on the other side.

The most prominent ruin in Silifke is that of the Temple of Jupiter or Zeus which dates from the 2nd or 3rd century AD.
Silifke is about half an hour by dolmus from Kızkalesi.
As we visited Silifke itself only between buses, we didn't have time to pay a visit to the hilltop castle that dominates the town.

Silifke is a region which Atatürk loved, where he established a farm and formed the first agricultural credit cooperative together with the peasants and visited four times on different occasions.
The house where Atatürk stayed on his first Silifke visit on January 27, 1925 is a two storey masonary house at Saray section of the city, built on a 329 m² piece of land.
The museum is organized to reflect the characteristics of those years as well as the region, and artifacts of ethnographic value obtained from the environs of Silifke and the ethnography section of the Silifke Museum provided the materials used.

Silifke is a town, where Atatürk established a farm, formed the first time an Agrarian Credit Cooperative together with farmers and visited four times in various dates.
The house belonging to the mayor of Silifke, Hadji Hulusi Effendi, later on was inherited by his heirs.
The bedroom furniture and the dinner sets used by Atatürk at his visit on 28 January 1925, the small gun presented by Atatürk to his host Sadik Tasucu with the inscription "Gazi M. Kemal" on it, and the documents and photographs of the farm and the cooperative he had established, are displayed in the museum.

In 1190 the river cost Barbarossa (Fredric of Swabia, not the Barbary pirate and later admiral of the Ottoman fleet of the sixteenth century) his life, when he drowned in it.
