Clark initially received an Army Commendation Medal with "V" device for his heroism, but at a team reunion in October 2003, about 38 years later, it was discovered that everyone but Clark had received a Silver Star.
Clark’s heroism was recognized with the Silver Star for his actions during the initial siege and assault of a bunker, for repeatedly volunteering to recover air dropped supplies under enemy mortar, small arms and heavy automatic weapons fire, and for refusing to leave the battlefield until the siege was broken.
Silver Stars were also awarded to two active duty Special Forces for acts of heroism in Iraq.
