 silver street
A particularly challenging project was the construction of twin box tunnels beneath Silver Street railway station, Edmonton, North London, forming part of a new vehicular underpass for the re-aligned North Circular Road.
The railway tracks carried a 20mph speed restriction and their alignment was manually adjusted on the completion of each tunnel.
As the settlement curve was extremely shallow, the settlements were readily tolerated by the station structures.

The government, instead of rebuilding the railway to Quillabamba that was destroyed in the El Nino flooding of March 1998, intends to build a new highway.
Her idea was to take children off the street and put them in her home.
This would drastically alter the incomparable landscape of Ollantaytambo, famous for its massive earthworks, working terraces and irrigation channels engineered by the Incas hundreds of years ago.

Terrorized by awesome Soviet conductresses, hindered at every station by officialdom and bureaucracy and hampered by the lack of palatable food and drink, Eric Newby's party none the less heroically completed the journey from Moscow to Nakhodka in 1977.
The only continuous land route between Western Europe and the Pacific coast of the former USSR, the Trans-Siberian Railway covers nearly a hundred degrees of longitude, seven time zones and 5900 miles in a journey lasting 192 hours and 35 minutes.

Situated four-hundred feet up in the Mendip hills and overlooking the town (then village) of Midsomer Norton, the station, in Silver Street was twelve and a half miles from Bath Green Park station terminus and was beside a bridge which carried the inclined railway over the road.
A year later, the narrow girder bridge, 48, over Silver street was totally obliterated and landscaped for road widening. The station was sold for use as educational premises in 1969 and resold bv the last owner to Wansdyke District Council in September 1995.
The station was most famous for its beautifully manicured gardens and won many prizes in "Best kept station" competions held by British Railways.

The aim of this site is to give information (1) on the SandDJR and (2) on the exciting restoration project at Midsomer Norton Station on the old SandDJR line south of Radstock.
However, the SandDJR is now covered by a plethora of really excellent sites - and there seemed little sense in re-inventing the wheel.

 Walkabout - Perth
Scarcely a hundred years have passed since that symmetry of streets and suburbs was a pathless bushland, a tangle of trees and scrub and swamp with the broad blue ribbon of river running through it, widening from a thread of silver at the foot of the ranges to the estuary marshes and the sea.'
The arrival of the Trans-Australian Railway in 1917 and the early success of the gold mining towns pushed the population to 272 528 in 1947 and the subsequent immigration from Britain meant that by 1981 809 035 people were living in Perth and its suburbs.
It is a comment on the religious tolerance of early Perth that the land upon which the cathedral was built was originally set aside for the Church of England and was transferred to the Roman Catholic Church in 1845.
