This year my husband and I have cleaned the cobwebs out of our tramping boots and walked the Routeburn and also the Greenstone/Caples tracks.
Sunday, 25 March - we met two friends at the northern end of Dunedin and car-pooled to the start of the tramp.
We drove out of Dunedin, through Evansdale, up the Kilmog to a yellow AA sign pointing to the left labelled 'Silverpeaks'.

Hi, This club is so lucky to have such an enthusiastic group of people prepared to help with Bushcraft year after year.
I have been lucky to have the same core of leaders this year as the past 3 or 4 years.
It is sometimes hard to convince someone that they will really enjoy the area, but they keep coming back.

 Silverpeaks Tramp and Train - December 13/14, 2003
Suitable all year round, although always be wary on the tops in the Silverpeaks.
The last weekend trip of 2003 was designed as a wind-down trip after a busy year.
I actually enjoyed this route as I hadn't seen Silverpeak and Pulpit Rock from this angle before.

 Dunedin run trails and camping
swampy summmit perhaps or whare flat is another great area, and the silverpeaks have some great tracks too...these are pretty much all side by side really, and a brilliant part of dunners and most will be in the book.
Dunedin has some of the best off-road running in New Zealand, if you can get a copy of "from sea to silverpeaks" which has descriptions maps of all the tracks.
Get a topo map, run past Ross Creek, up Pineapple, over Swampy and keep on running into the Silverpeaks, you can eventually come out at Careys creek north of Waitati then hitch back into town.
