Stylishly produced by John Leckie and dressed in a Jackson Pollock-styled splatter cover painting by guitarist John Squire, the album is a stunningly well-realized debut, a record-as-cultural-identity one-off as cataclysmic as The Smiths or Ziggy Stardust.
The album elevated Stone Roses to the head of the Manchester class, and nearly made them US stars when it hit the charts here.
In the meantime, Silvertone (which the band was suing to get off) issued Turns Into Stone, an eleven-cut compilation of singles, including the two A-sides that had already found their way onto the American album.

Silvertone Blues draws from the past for arrangements but is decidedly modern in its musicianship.
As one would expect from his roots and influences a roots acoustic album does not have the feel of the Mississippi Delta, but a more sophisticated sound that is reflective of blues, rock and gospel influences.
"Silvertone Blues" is a consistently excellent mix of different blues styles with Joe Louis' expressive vocals and guitar pyrotechnics.

Quite simply, their debut album is a superlative record.
A classic album, already seen as one of the finest records of the past thirty years.
Even so, despite the fact that they can’t be bothered or can't afford to explore the possibilities for psychic disintegration made available by new technology, there is still something charming about The Stone Roses - their complete obnoxiousness.

The Stone Roses: self-titled - PopMatters Music Review
The religious imagery that underpins the album is not one of devotion to a God, but one that would attain God-like devotion -- "I am the resurrection and I am the light." In the late '80s/early '90s, they were.
This album was more than just a piece of fl plastic, it was the totem of a generation coming out of the wings and defining an era.
For this album has changed many people's world and a world without it would be a place with slightly less magic.

The Morning News - The Stone Roses, Second Coming, by Andrew Womack
Their self-titled first album was an instant classic, a riveting collection of top-notch tunes with loads and loads of attitude.
The wait, the recording (an album was supposedly recorded before Second Coming, but was aborted at the last minute), the stress, the pressure: The wilderness years destroyed the Stone Roses.
And with their second album they were knee-deep in the insurmountable challenge of reinventing the face of music all over again.

While the Silvertone album was well received, it sold modestly.
Not long afterwards the release of the album, Isaak’s acting career began in earnest when the songwriter scored a bit part in the Jonathan Demme comedy, "Married to the Mob." His turn would prove the beginning of a long career in front of the camera.
Not only did the album retain Isaak’s homage to the sounds of early rock’n roll, the album came complete with a deceptively vintage-looking photo of Isaak on the cover, further tipping the proverbial hat to Isaak’s early rock’n roll influences.

The album was so unique that several of these songs found their way into movie soundtracks ("Dancin'," "Gone Riding" and "Funeral In The Rain").
People who have followed him from the beginning may consider this to be his ultimate album because everything later is just a variation of the original.
But, if you listen to the later albums and then come back to this one, you may find that the first album is a little bland and is just the seed for better subsequent material.

He has a string of well-received albums for Verve to his credit and now a brand-new release for The Verve Music Group's Blue Thumb imprint, Silvertone Blues.
The album takes Walker all the way back to his roots with stirring acoustic performances and stinging, stripped-down electric tracks that vividly display his most traditional leanings.
For his last Verve album, 1998's Preacher and the President, Walker ventured down to Alabama to record with the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section, who provided the sinuous grooves on countless soul and pop hits dating back to the mid-'60s.

The chronicle of the band's Silvertone years makes for more interesting viewing, although it's patchy and marred by a gushing narrator who spouts ready-made nostalgia.
In interview snippets, Ian Brown and John Squire embody the cool aloofness and arrogance that were an undeniable part of the Stone Roses' attraction and that permeated their music.
This release may be part of Silvertone's plan to cash in, and it may be inconsistent, but it offers a rare visual document of the Manchester group whose blend of guitars and dance grooves inspired a generation of British indie bands.

It was always going to be difficult to try to enhance songs that were already pretty amazing yet this album shows plenty signs of innovation and creativity and the magical aura of the Stone Roses still runs through the record.
I was expecting it to mainly be a album of dance remixes but it's about half and half with mellow versions of songs.

After acquiring a contract with Warner Brothers Records in 1985, Isaak and the band moved through three years and two albums with little success, apart from "Blue Hotel" which was a hit in France.
The debut Silvertone was raw and diverse, with country blues mingling with conventional folk ballads.
The self-titled follow-up saw him hone his style to sophisticated R&B. Throughout he was backed by the excellent moody guitar of Wilsey, whose mimicry of 50s styles is impeccable.
