Piola was born on 29 September 1913 and was only a few months old when his family moved to Vercelli, a small town situated between Turin and Milan, where he was to spend his formative years and make his Serie A debut.
Silvio Piola was not a member of that squad but 12 months later, on 24 March 1935, he made his debut for the national side against Austria and scored twice to secure victory for Italy in the third edition of the International Cup.
Piola then struck in the second minute of extra time to secure his country's passage to a quarter-final meeting in Paris with a France team, who could call on the support not only of their own fans but also of many Italians who had fled Mussolini's fascist regime.

 Silvio Piola - Wikipedia
