SiMa Qian is not deserving of being praised as having some sort of god-like honesty and treating sources as they should in the modern sense of history.
This means the title still wouldn't be more suited to SiMa Qian, because not only did he live many years after Herodotus (who wouldn't hold the title for age anyway!), but he lived after people who were more meticulous and strict with accounts of history (yet again, see Thucydides).
Written records were initiated in China in 841 BC and Sima Qian was known as The Grand Historian as a result of his post and also as a result of his influence in future Chinese historiography.

Tian Rangju (Sima Rangju) and Sun Wu (Sunzi) were both descended from Gui Wan 妫完 who fled to Qi and changed his surname to Tian because it was pronounced similarly to 'Chen' at that time (probably something like 'Tan' or 'Ten').
Sun Wu's grandfather Tian Shu 田书, a contemporary of Tian Rangju, was given the surname Sun as a reward by the Duke of Qi for successes in battle.
So three of the great military strategists of the period (Tian Rangju, Sun Wu and Sun Bin) were descendants of the Chen ruling house of Gui 妫, and so were the Tian clan who came to rule the state of Qi.
