Simbu Province is advocating a 50 per cent subsidized education policy, whereas other provinces like Eastern Highlands and Western Highlands do not have a free education policy.
The problem in Simbu Province is that the province does not have the revenue base to implement a project that would cost the Government K4 millions for subsidised education, and almost K8 million for free education.
The Province revenue base of around K2 million is insufficient, and 90 per cent of this money is budgeted for the operation of the political wing of the Simbu Government.

Mr Kowane especially urged people in the province to help his census team who are now out updating the household listing, statistical area maps, filling in of household record cards and doing socio-economic condition studies.

He recorded "inquests" conducted through spirit mediums, and the belief that the presence of a witch among villagers paying their respects to the dead caused a corpse to gurgle or split open (though these are natural stages in decomposition).
It is a country where women are still seen as property and prospective husbands must compensate a girl's parents for the loss of her labor; where the wantok system of mutual assistance saddles the political culture with nepotism and corruption; and where community ties are still strong enough to make orphanages and retirement homes unnecessary.

Kundiawa, the capital of Simbu province, is set in picturesque surroundings beside a spectacular airstrip built on a sloping ridge beneath the towering mountains.
Some of the highest mountains in Papua New Guinea are in Simbu Province including Mt Wilhelm, at 4,509 metres, the highest peak in Papua New Guinea.
There is a clearly marked track which passes through traditional Simbu villages, through dense rainforest, into the valley before reaching Pindaunde Lakes where there are basic huts for overnight stays and on.

THE Simbu provincial government led by dynamic Governor Peter Launa has declared year 2005, "The Year of Education" for his Chimbu province.
For the benefit of those who have yet to visit Chimbu province, it is a land of rugged mountains, fast flowing rivers and densely populated slopes and small valleys.
For the first time in my province's history, College of Distant Education (CODE) students from all over Chimbu, who have failed at grade 10 and upgraded their grades, have been enrolled at Kerowagi Secondary High School, competing with properly selected grades 11 and 12 students this year.

THE Deputy Governor of Simbu province John Kultu, was sworn in last week with nine other newly appointed chairmen of the council committee of the Simbu Provincial Executive Council (PEC).
This follows a reshuffle made by Simbu Governor Fr Louis Ambane, by virtue of the powers conferred on him under section 25 of the organic law on provincial and local level governments.
Mr Kultu said the reshuffle of the chairmen (ministers) in the provincial cabinet was done because the Ambane/Kultu government is serious about developing Simbu province and it is not going to entertain those who are playing petty politics for self-gain in the PEC.

THE Simbu province is headed towards self-reliance of chicken and sheep meat as the provincial government has expressed interest in supporting animal farming in the province.
‘I want the people of Simbu to seriously realise what the government is doing for them and they must participate in these economic development projects, because Simbu is the last province in PNG when it comes to revenue generating sources,’ Fr Ambane said.
He added that the New Zealand government had expressed interest in assisting the province and the onus was on the people to take up the challenge.
