	Simon Dach - LoveToKnow 1911
		SIMON DACH (1605-1659), German lyrical poet, was born at Memel in East Prussia on the 29th of July 1605.
		Although brought up in humble circumstances, he received a careful education in the classical schools of Konigsberg, Wittenberg and Magdeburg, and entered the university of Konigsberg in 1626 as a student of theology and philosophy.
		Editions of Dach's poems have been published by W. Mailer (1823), by H. Osterley (for the Stuttgart Literarischer Verein, 1876); also selections by the same editor (1876), and in Kiirschner's Deutsche Nationalliteratur (1883).

		Simon Dach (July 29, 1605 - April 15, 1659) was a Prussian German lyrical poet and writer of hymns, born in Memel in the Duchy of Prussia (now Klaipėda in Lithuania).
		After earning his degree, Dach was a private tutor for a time, then was appointed Kollaboralor (teacher) in 1633 and co-rector of the Domschule (cathedral school) in Königsberg in 1636.
		Dach became one of the prominent heads of the musical Kürbishütte, a group that inluded, among others, George Weissel, Valentin Thilo and Johann Franck.

		In 1636, the same year in which he became assistant rector at the Königsberg Domschule, Dach wrote the folk-song “Ännchen von Tharau ist, die mir gefällt,” dedicating the same to the daughter of the pastor of Tharau, whom he had courted in vain.
		He was repeatedly elected dean of the faculty in the department of philosophy, and in 1656 and 1657 he served as rector of the university.
		In this school of hymn poets of Königsberg Simon Dach was the leading figure.
