Simon Weston was born in the Welsh village of Nelson in Mid Glamorgan in 1961.
In 1982 Simon was aboard the RFA Sir Galahad when it was attacked and destroyed by Argentine aircraft, and the horrific burns which he suffered have required a series of operations which continue to this day.
He co-founded a charity, The Weston Spirit, which is dedicated to helping young people play a more active role in their communities, and he spends much of his time travelling the country engaged in fund-raising events to support the charity, which is now established in Liverpool, Cardiff and Newcastle.

Simon Weston (born 1961) is known throughout Britain as the soldier who suffered horrific injuries during the Falklands War and subsequently became an inspiration to those with similar injuries.

As an ex para who served in the Falklands, i think it was a good joke, every squaddie has a sick sense of humour to keep them going and i,m sure Simon would have made similar jokes himself at the expense of others when he was serving.
I never met Simon but I've heard all of the stories about him, and how he's rebuilt his life and is now a happy man, as am I, and I wish him, and all of the others who suffered in that 'incident' all the best.
