Sin (Nine Inch Nails song) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Trent Reznor is a fan of Barker's and he liked this line so much, he included it in a song.
It was directed by Brett Turnbull around October, 1990, but wasn't released until November 24, 1997 when it appeared on Halo 12 in edited form.
Even though the front has a stylized graphic that simply says "Sin" and everyone calls it "Sin" (including the official NIN webite), the spine of the US version refers to the album as "Sin Long, Dub and Short".

Nine Inch Nails begin their DVD with an interesting piece of music, and I believe they partly put it in there because of the audience reaction to when Nine Inch Nails started playing.

Hurt by Nine Inch Nails Songfacts
I personally prefer the Nine Inch Nails version but I don't think it has to be a case of love one and hate the other, I enjoy the Johnny Cash one too.
It's not about who exploited the song or sang it more clearly, the bottom line is its the same song and Johnny was an outlet for it.It's the same song guys, regardless of who is singing it.
The song is intentionally an assault on the senses, your not supposed to feel a love to the song in the same way you do with cash's and that?s why his version suffers, its a warning and its got a hell of a lot more power for being that way.

The famous NIN song from their 1989 debut release was an underground hit in the college circuits along with industrial rock clubs but the single didn’t gain any momentum until NIN went on tour as part of the Lollapalooza festival with Jane’s Addiction in the summer of 1991.
There, the song was popular in the growing alternative rock circuits thanks to its blend of metal-blazing guitars, industrial-driven metal-bashing beats, droning synthesizers, and Trent Reznor’s angry and angst-ridden lyrics that was relevant among a crowd of outsiders who had enough of pop-rap, hair-metal, and dance-pop that was overly dominant in the early 90s.
The video for the song wasn’t as controversial as “Down In It” due to the fact that NIN was playing in circle that looked a bit like a circus while Trent Reznor was hanging upside by his feet at the end of the video.

Nine Inch Nails delivers bang-up show (Denver Post - June 20, 2000)
Nihilist-rock gods Nine Inch Nails, led by iconoclast Trent Reznor, played the final show of their "Fragility v2.0 Tour" in front of 9,656 appreciative fans at Pepsi Center Sunday night.
In addition to selections from "The Fragile," Nine Inch Nails performed "March of the Pigs" and "Piggy" from the highly regarded "Downward Spiral" CD as well as "Gave Up" from the 1992 EP "Broken." Musically, the Nails delivered a tight, well-honed, machine-gun sonic barrage on hard-edged material like "Wish" (a crowd fave) and "Terrible Lie."
When Nine Inch Nails' five-song encore concluded with the relatively soft (for NIN) "Hurt," folks held lighters in the air and swayed as Reznor used the song's breaks to convey his emotions.

This song is sometimes translated into the artist simply needing sexual release, but it's truly about the sexual frustrations he cannot overcome.
But i think that discounting the song as a tribute to pagan relgions and the male orgasm is missing the point a bit.
This song isn't about sexual frustrations; it's about how miserable and depressed this guy is, and how he seeks salvation in sex and wants everything to be taken from him.

Every song sounds lovingly crafted with attention to every nuance (except for production quality which my brother says is poor because Trent didn't exactly have a lot of money with which to record the album).
Sanctified is the most underrated song on PHM and I consider it to be one of the highlights of the album.

I have three Nine Inch Nails albums, The Downward Spiral, Further Down the Spiral and Pretty Hate Machine, and in my oppinion this is by far the best.
From start to finish, there is not a bad song on the album; even Reznor's mock rapping on 'Down in It' stays in perfect harmony with the music.
Not every song is a rockin' ragefest: "Something I Can Never Have" is a sweeping, haunted ballad with Reznor lamenting that "I'm starting to scare myself." It's one of the most powerful songs on a hard-hitting record, and shows Reznor's anguished vocals at their best.

Nine Inch Nails (NIN) is a critically and commercially successful American band formed in Cleveland, Ohio in 1988 by Trent Reznor.
NIN's songs cover a range of genres; as a body of work, they cannot be pigeonholed.
Nine Inch Nails dropped out of the 2005 MTV Video Music Awards show because of a disagreement with MTV over the use of an image of George W. Bush as a backdrop to the band's performance of "The Hand That Feeds", which includes such lyrics as:

 Sin (Nine Inch Nails)
The "Sin" mixes first though, remixed by Adrian Sherwood and Keith LeBlanc, who did a fine job with "Down In It", this song really doesn't match their techno beat restructuring, and in fact the aggression of the song is pretty much swallowed up in a programmed beat and irritating synth effects.
But "Get Down Make Love" though, this is the great missing early Nine Inch Nails piece, produced by Al Jourgenson, Reznor takes a fantastic Queen song and restructures it into his own vision, staying true to the original but at the same time fully claiming it as his own.
But the thing that makes this CD a must-get for Nine Inch Nails fans is the cover version of Queen's "Get Down Make Love".

Although Nine Inch Nails mastermind Trent Reznor became the poster boy for industrial rock in the early 1990s, his '89 debut, PRETTY HATE MACHINE, actually has a stronger foothold in '80s synth-pop.

The terms “healthy psychology” and “Nine Inch Nails” don’t usually come up in the same conversation, let alone the same sentence.
Juggling the textures and layers of the act’s previous two records while maintaining the crisp accessibility of Reznor’s early work, With Teeth is a comfortable middle ground between Nine Inch Nails’ extremes.
It doesn’t yield the unforgettable hooks of “Head Like a Hole” or “Sin,” nor does it spin off into the grips of depression of “Hurt,” a friendly medium is a welcome return from The Fraglie’s descent into abstract insanity.
