  Sin City (2005): Reviews
Sin City has been made with such scrupulous care and obvious love for its genre influences that it's a shame the movie is kind of a bore.
Sin City is always moving on to the next thing, and despite surprisingly good work from its large cast (especially Rourke and Owen, who are both outstanding), the picture feels synthetic and artificial.
Sin City is a seedy tribute to rugged masculinity disguised as a rogue's gallery, all the better to please college boys who like their sentimentality slicked with grunge.

Sin City - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Sin City is the title for a series of stories by Frank Miller, told in comic book form in a film noir-like style.
Basin City, almost universally referred to by the nickname Sin City, is a fictional town in the American Northwest, located somewhere 40 minutes outside of Seattle, Washington.
The Basin City Police are more or less along the lines of paramilitary or SWAT, as they have to deal with incredibly high crime rates and high gun ownership among criminals and civilians alike, which is why they have access to what most would consider "heavy weaponry" and full body armour.

The politicians, police, business leaders and even religious hierarchy of Sin City are all corrupt beyond belief; and in response the ordinary citizens have become jaded and cynical.

 Sin City
The biggest surprise might be that Sin City is a product, in all its grit and glory, of the same green-screen process that produced the niftily antiseptic Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow.
Sin City feels like love even though it's steeped in the mean noir of Jules Dassin's Night and the City and, oddly enough, the prosthetic nightmare of Warren Beatty's Dick Tracy.
Nasty, uncompromising, an instant cult classic, Sin City is most definitely not for every taste (were it not so stylized, it would surely have earned an X for grue), but it is that once-a-year reminder, hot and dangerous, of why it is a lot of us started going to the movies in the first place.

Sin City is one such movie: I realized early on that the events unfolding onscreen bore little to no resemblance to reality as presently constituted; I just didn't care.
Sin City is a movie dealing with lives on the edge, and it conjures up a delightfully dark, grimy, and gritty atmosphere to go match the depravity of its subject matter.
In the Basin City of the movie, where the good guys are bad and the bad guys are even worse, violence is often a virtue, or at the very least a prerequisite for survival.

Filmtracks: Sin City (Robert Rodriguez/Graeme Revell/John Debney)
Sin City: (Robert Rodriguez/Graeme Revell/John Debney) For director and composer, Robert Rodriguez, Sin City has been a project stewing in his dreams for quite a while.
The "Sin City" theme, which Rodriguez refers to as "Descent," is a simple progression of downward spiraling chords meant to mimic a fall into the darkness of the city's nightmarish style.
As opposed to some projects nowadays that are torn apart by the presence of several different composers, Sin City is viable because of the careful direction of the music by Rodriguez himself.

'Sin City' reviewed on the official website of Laura Hird
‘Sin City’, based on works by the great Frank Miller (Batman, Dark Knight, etc) has the neo-noir look, complete with dark rainy nights, silhouetted city skylines and characters with expressions that look as though they were drawn on by Miller.
One has a cop trying to protect a young girl from a politically connected sexual predator, another involves a big lug searching for the killer of a hooker who was kind to him for a night, and the third deals with an incident that leads to a potential turf war between cops and crooks.
His ‘Sin City’ has gone further in terms of darkness and existential story line, examining the often corrupt, urban landscape using totally modern graphics and drawing techniques while still retaining elements of earlier styles.

Sin City | movies : ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY
To look for the same in a movie is to arrive at the obsessive literal-mindedness and diminished emotional returns of Sin City or, as the promotional materials emphasize, Frank Miller's Sin City — as if, in certain controversial scholarly circles, Francis Bacon has been credited with the authorship.
This uncontestedly jazzy-looking screen translation of various stories from the pages of the Sin City comic books begun by Miller in 1991 is first and foremost the cinematic work of impish pop-culture vulture Robert Rodriguez, who has swung in his colorful career from El Mariachi to Spy Kids.
And so a grand love-and-death story that might have carried the whole picture — about the homely loner's all-city search for the killer of a beautiful woman who showed Marv love in one night of sticky bliss — gets shuffled between other, less ''human'' stories that apparently must be told.
