  Movie Review: Sin City
But all of the movies to date have something in common, and that is an attempt to bring story to life in the theatre.
But the greatest achievement and the greatest flaw of Sin City are virtually identical: the movie resembles almost to a fault the graphic novels that serve as the foundation for the film.
Sin City is rated R for "sustained strong stylized violence, nudity, and sexual content including langage." This ain't Spider-Man, Mom and Dad.

It was a great movie for about 20 minutes, then the B&W novelty with a spash of color wore off, I wish he kept it fresh like Miller in the comics.
Amazingly, "Sin City" is a whore with a heart of gold.
Like Caesar's Gaul, "Sin City" is divided into three parts, pulling together stories, bits, and pieces from several of the graphic novels, slicing and dicing them, then folding them back on themselves.

 Sin City - Movie Review
Sin City is a mega-violent, highly potent vial of noir crack.
Sin City features the most extreme and constant ultraviolence to assault multiplexes since Kill Bill, and its structure has a more than a whiff of Pulp Fiction (and not just because Bruce Willis plays one of the few men of honor in the movie).
Sin City's look is remarkably true to the graphic novel form, with bandages that glow through the darkness and green eyes and red dresses that leap from the colorless backgrounds.

I cannot imagine a Sin City that is written by somebody else, and I'm also a bit worried that this might mean we will get rushed, watered down stories with other actors subbing for their big screen counterparts.
We already knew that the second Sin City movie will feature some of the other stories from Frank Miller's books, but the man has also confirmed that he is working on some new stories.
That's good news, not just because it means more Sin City, but also because it gives to a signal to other movie makers that comic book movies that are faithful to their source material can be succesfull enough to become a franchise.

Mickey Rourke: Sin City - Movie
The thing that bothers me the most about the steaming pile of crap called Sin City is that it is being held up as an example of what comic books are truly about, with numerous reviewers touting it as the first authentic translation of a comic book.
The only positive thing about Sin City was its visual style, specifically the limited and dramatic use of color against a backdrop of a fl and white world.
Sin City is not at all representative of the diverse, mature works the comic industry is capable of.

 Review - Movie: Sin City
It is one of the most violent movies I have ever seen; yet the cinematography somehow enhances and (ahem) neuters the effect at the same time.
Sin City features three main stories book-ended by set pieces featuring a surprisingly suave Josh Hartnett; the opening sequence was the demo reel that convinced Miller to finally let someone bring his work to the screen.
I believe Sin City will be remembered as a film that helped change the shape of moviemaking, and I recommend it highly.

Sin City - zBoneman Movie Reviews
Sin City is cast to perfection, and Frank Miller (who actually has a sly little cameo himself) has been very vocal about how happy he is with the finished product, particularly Mickey Rourke who plays the lumbering Marv.
The movie is the story, it is the characters that make up the story and it is a tale of good versus evil set in the background of a city as rich as the stories that are told about it.
Sin City is a full-on Masterpiece and I very much enjoyed reading about the backstroy - it sounds like your right in that it would make a fascinating documentary to see how it al came together - especially if all of these amazing actors took part in it.

The seething world of Sin City is comparable to the most vivid screen visions of societies scorched by other-worldly darkness: the emotionally desolate streets and slums of Ridley Scott's Blade Runner, or the gothic haven for heroes and crooks in Burton's Batman (1989).
Sin City, stunning on the surface and below, is an instant classic: a rare treat for an art form constantly petted by mediocrity.

'Sin City' - MOVIE REVIEW - Los Angeles Times - calendarlive.com
In "Sin City," Miller's thought bubbles have been preserved, packed and exported into voice-over tracks as lovingly as if they had been found on scrolls in a tomb outside Cairo, and they choke the movie like a hot smog.
One wasn't, of course, but the movie's slick, all-digital universe, though technically impressive, feels cloistered and airless, and it's hard to beat back the occasional sneaky feeling that the characters aren't, in fact, roaming the streets of a concrete jungle but standing on a smallish stage.
Repellent as it is, the carnage in "Sin City" does have the odd effect of tethering it to the material, flesh-and-blood world.

Although Sin City lists no fewer than three directors, the film is a fresh and innovative treat that I promise is like nothing you have ever seen before.
As a result, Sin City the movie plays out as a uber-violent noir-ish progression of visual imagery that is so highly stylized it somehow lessens the impact of the mile-a-minute blood letting, all the while remaining true to Miller's dark fictional world.

Sin City (film) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Sin City is a 2005 neo-noir anthology film based on the graphic novel series of the same name, directed by Frank Miller and Robert Rodriguez and with "Special Guest Director" Quentin Tarantino.
The movie employed the use of the Sony HDC-950 high-definition digital camera, having the actors work in front of a green screen, that allowed for the artificial backgrounds (as well as some major foreground elements, such as cars) to be added later during the post-production stage.
The movie was color corrected digitally and, as in film noir tradition, treated for heightened contrast so as to more clearly separate fls and whites.

''Sin City" -- tellingly, the ''official" title is ''Frank Miller's Sin City" -- is also the most faithfully realized comic book adaptation to hit the screen to date, with dialogue lifted still wet from the original speech balloons and camera shots fetishistically re-creating Miller's stark, impressionistic panels.

SPLICEDwire | "Sin City" movie review (2005) "Sin City" review, Robert Rodriguez, Bruce Willis, Benicio Del Toro, Clive ...
A triptych of dark, violent tales set in a fallen metropolis of corruption and grime, the film is a collaboration between director Robert Rodriguez (of "Desperado" and "Spy Kids" fame) and graphic novelist Frank Miller (responsible for the gritty reinventions of Batman and Daredevil), whose unique touch in the unusual role of co-director is unmistakable.
Pages from the "Sin City" books were clearly used as storyboards for the stunning, stark fl-and-white cinematography, which features exclamation points of illustrative color: the golden tresses of a beautiful femme fatale, white-on-fl silhouettes, red splashes of blood from brutal murders that occur just out of frame.
"Sin City" may be too imperfect to be called a masterpiece, but it's certainly an unforgettable work of art and entertainment.
