Planet Sinclair: The Sinclair Industry: Magazines: Sinclair User
At the end of 1986 under the editorship of David Kelly, Sinclair User underwent a dramatic redesign to position it firmly as a games magazine, with Your Sinclair clearly being seen as its main target.
In 1988, SU, Crash and Your Sinclair began a vicious circulation war as the readership of 8-bit magazines crumbled with the rise of the Atari ST and Commodore Amiga.
Sinclair User's last design change occured at the end of 1990 under Garth Sumpter's editorship, although the magazine was now little more than a vehicle for the cover tape.

THE SINCLAIR C5, a 99lb battery-powered, one-seater tricycle with a white plastic body, seems set to create more noise in the motoring world than John De Lorean and the BL Maestro rolled into one.
Those accessories may be bought as an extra from Sinclair Vehicles, along with a high visibility mast to attach to the car.
Bill Nichols of Sinclair Research says it was never the intention to hide such costs to the user, and points out that "none of those items is legally required." However, the issue at stake is not the legality of the machine, or even its structural stability.

The brilliant technical career of Sir Clive Sinclair started when he was still at school but Sinclair Research, the computer company - his third attempt at a high-tech firm - was not founded until July 1979.
Sinclair offered incentives to customers, such as a free RS-232 lead, but his reputation had been seriously damaged.
Robert Maxwell boldly announced a takeover of Sinclair Research during the summer - by the autumn, though, the Maxwell board had rejected the move and Sir Clive was once more on his own.

Most of the commands on the Oric can be mimicked on the Spectrum but the Oric also allows the user to write extended Basic subroutines, which will be implemented by defining new Basic commands.
At the moment Sinclair seems to have nothing to worry about but if Oric produces the promised peripherals in time, Sinclair could well have a fight on his hands.

 Sinclair User
Sinclair User was enthusiastic in its' outlook and aggressively competitive - both of these qualities for the time were not discouraged nor that unusual in the computer magazine market.
All three Spectrum magazines had to face certain problems when the market was bottoming out; for Crash and YS the quality of the reviews and general editorial didn't really suffer.
Unfortunately, the same could not be said of Sinclair User.

The Pointless Truth 1 - Nemesis (Sinclair User)
And when Sinclair User came out with the first review of the game, it looked as though their waiting and hopes hadn't been in vain.
This theory is backed up somewhat by the Your Sinclair review, which is a rather wet effort (credited to the mysterious "Tommy Nash", but whose picture is actually that of the mag's publisher Kevin Cox in dark glasses) awarding the game a stupidly generous 8/10 score.
So the evidence for Sinclair User having reviewed a nicer-looking beta version (rather than just reviewing and marking it based on some fake screenshots) in order to get the exclusive seems reasonably convincing.
