 Regional Landscape
Surface deposits of glacial drift reflect the local bedrock from which the till was derived; the bedrock in the northern third of Michigan is Cambrian sandstone, and bedrock in the remainder of Michigan and Wisconsin is limestone and dolomite.
Wetlands are extensive throughout the sub-subsection, but they have been more extensively drained for agriculture to the south in Wisconsin than elsewhere.
A cross section of the flat plain between the drumlins had northern white-cedar and tamarack at the margins of the drumlins (on poorly drained mineral soil or shallow organic soils) and fl spruce and open bog or wet meadow at the center of the plain (on very poorly drained peats or mucks).

Sinclair fallout could linger   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-13)
Sinclair, one of the largest independent owners of television stations, found itself the latest media company in controversy's glare when its plans to air an anti-John Kerry documentary drew fierce opposition from Democrats in Washington, advertisers and, in turn, shareholders.
Sinclair also shrunk the number of stations to air the show to 40 from 60.
In denouncing Sinclair, the Kerry camp said that the company had an obligation to allow Kerry to give his view under an FCC rule that requires a broadcaster lending its facilities to support one candidate to provide "quasi-equal opportunities" for backers of the opposing cause.

Stormwater | Early Tenants Prove the Success of the Richmond Wetlands Project
Jefferson Village is the site of a major wetlands mitigation project located in the city of Richmond, VA, in an area containing significant residential, commercial, and industrial development.
City officials and the agencies wanted the new wetland site to lie within the city and the Reedy Creek watershed, but since Richmond is highly developed, many people were concerned that acquisition and development of such a site would prove prohibitively expensive.
While this approach was challenging during the construction phase of the project, it resulted in constructed wetland cells that maintain significant levels of water, with an even lower permeability than the natural subgrade adjacent to the creek.

 MBCL ORAL SUBMISSION: KINGSTON LODGE
The Framework Plan, a joint review of the Keysborough wetlands for the City of Greater Dandenong and the City of Kingston, concluded that: "there is strong strategic planning, environmental and landscape grounds to reconfirm the long term value of the non-urban area (the green wedge) from a metropolitan and local perspective".
Now we are being asked to approve an artificial wetland development costing approximately 7 million dollars based on consultants reports containing a farrago of "ifs", "maybes", and "possibles" when referring to this wetland development.
The Review of Kingston Lodge Wetland System consultants report (p.4) also highlights the matter of groundwater/ wetland connectivity which raises questions of potential salinity impacts on aquatic ecology and resultant wetland pollution of the groundwater - and this is likely even without the long term effects of predicted climate change on water tables.

The conservation of wetlands and remnant bushland is integral to that understanding, and in addition these are seen as essential 'sinks' for the absorption of emissions, notably those from vehicles.

This problem dates back as far as April 1997, when the Canadian Field-Naturalist covered the issue.

Sinclair, of 6 Dock Road, has filed an application with the harbor management commission and the state Department of Environmental Protection seeking a permit to build a 362-foot elevated walkway from her property across tidal wetlands to the north side of the creek.
The walkway, as described in the application, would be three feet wide at some points and four feet wide at others, and a hinged ramp would connect the walkway to a floating dock.
In the application Sinclair says the dock will allow for recreational small boat activities, opportunities to view the surrounding natural flora and fauna, and fishing from the end of the dock.

The floodplains and wetlands are also extremely important to the biodiversity of the River as their waters contain 100 times more species than the water in the main river channels, allowing native fish to breed and feed and providing diverse habitats (Wigley, 1999).
The biodiversity of the floodplains and wetlands, as with the entire river basin, has evolved and adapted over many thousands of years to the natural ebb and flow of the River with the seasons of flood and drought, and in many cases they relied on these changes to stimulate their breeding and migration.
The kind of disturbance most affecting wetland and floodplain species is along with altered flow regimes, which play a crucial role in the habitat of aquatic plants vegetation clearance, grazing by livestock.
