It is located 20 km west of Thessaloniki, in the region of the modern village of Sindos.
Four tombs contained masks which covered the face of the dead; three were made of gold sheet and one was of a gilt silver sheet.
The rich offerings of the cemetery indicate that the settlement of Sindos flourished during the last quarter of the 6th century and the beginning of the 5th century B.C. (Archaic period).

The 1,500-meter stretch of the pipe that goes under Sindos was gradually eaten away at points by industrial waste from neighboring factories and pesticides used by local farmers, Penelis said.
EYATH officials asked the laboratory to prepare a study on the situation, which recommended that the entire Sindos stretch of the pipe should be replaced.

Out of the margins: The right to conscientious objection to military service in Europe - Amnesty International   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-05)
When work is available in the Military Prison of Sindos, conscientious objectors who work are able to reduce their sentences either by three-quarters of a day for each day worked or by one day for each day worked.
Later on in their sentence they are transferred to agricultural prisons, Kassandra and Kassavetia, where they can perform agricultural work and reduce their remaining sentence by one half (each day they work counts as one day off their sentence).
According to this law "prisoners who have served a prison sentence of more than one year and who have in any way served half of their sentence are lawfully released from prison with the condition that they do not commit the same offence within a period of one year after their discharge".
