The anthemic “The Young Crazed Peeling” is an outstanding shout-along song, while the title track, “Sing Sing Death House” is an acidic punk-fest driven by angst and adrenaline.

Sing Sing Death House also sports a bunch of bits that no musician can fake, nor can be dropped in with a handy copy of Pro-Tools.
It’s desperation, pure and simple, something with which The Distillers are more than familiar, from a bitter, phlegmy reality check on the state of the land of dreams ("City of Angels"), or a defiant, can’t-crush-me rager in which Armstrong bears her scars not as injuries, but as badges of honor ("The Young Crazed Peeling").
Maybe it’s the lineup between the band’s debut, The Distillers (2000, Hellcat) and Sing Sing Death House, or maybe Armstrong has just found her voice.
