The Special Operations Force (SOF) is part of the Singapore Army's Commandos arm.
Troopers are trained in jungle-warfare, reconnaissance and counter-terrorism, and are deployable by land, airborne assault and amphibious assault, specialising in free-falling, diving and long-range land insertion.
They are each cross-trained to operate all types of weapons and equipments, though each trooper is assigned a specialist appointment in his team.

The Naval Diving Unit (NDU) is a special force of the Republic of Singapore Navy, and is regularly tasked in salvage operations, underwater mine demolition and commando-type warfare.
In 2001, naval officer Wong Foo Chan became the first foreigner to top his class in the Green Berets course, and received a commendation medal for this achievement.
NDU divers were sent to conduct salvage operations after the crash of Silkair Flight MI185 on 19 December 1997, which killed all 104 people on board.

A number of Operation Detachment-Delta operators and agents had already infiltrated into Tehran to help conduct the strike to rescue the 53 diplomats and Marine guards who were taken hostage when a mob seized the U.S. Embassy on Nov. 4, 1979.
