Questionnaire surveys were conducted in Singida and Dodoma regions (Semi arid Central Tanzania) in order to assess the potential of crop residues and natural vegetation as ruminant feeds during the dry season.
The aim of this paper is to highlight the current state of knowledge on utilization of different local trees and shrubs among agro- pastoralists in the Dodoma and Singida regions, in the semi-arid zone of Central Tanzania.

More or less every one in the Singida region of central Tanzania agrees that the community managed emergency food distribution programme implemented over the last year, has been a great success.
While driving back to Singida town I found myself wondering how often church missions had to step in to fill the gaps when humanitarian agencies missed out destitute populations or simply failed to notice an emergency.
It also occurred to me that we aid 'professionals' are always so ready to criticise the technical proficiency of church based agencies when they enter the field of emergency relief but so rarely praise their efforts when they act as the last resort.

The flies and germ were village health animators who created an entertaining participatory drama about children having the knowledge and the power to prevent disease in their homes.
The drama was the starter for workshops that reached over 3,500 children, their teachers and parents during two three-week long tours, one in Singida Region (November 1999) and one in Tabora Region (July 2000).
The tour teams in Singida and Tabora drew on a variety of skills and backgrounds that linked the coordinators from HPA with other health and education specialists from the region.

The original relief plan for Dodoma and Singida, based on the RVA recommendations, was for food aid to be distributed over five months, starting with 2,764 MT of government-subsidized maize in November followed by 11,056 MT distributed by the World Food Programme (WFP) between December and March via a food for farming program.
The districts of Kondoa and Mpwapwa (Dodoma Region) and Manyoni, Iramba and Singida (Singida Region) were allocated 1,489 MT of maize from the SGR in October.

 117 Singida genital mutilators surrender wares
As the fight against FGM gains momentum, 117 traditional female genital mutilators in Singida Region have surrendered their equipment and abandoned the practice.
Presenting her paper at the workshop organised by Tanzania Media Women’s Association (TAMWA), Karya said in 2002 a total of 4,272 pregnant mothers who attended various health centres in the region were already mutilated.
An estimated 350 women were being mutilated every month in Singida between 2002 and October 2003, according to figures issued at the workshop.

The Singida-Shelui Road project is expected to bring about tourism boom in Singida Region.
