Single Channel Simulcast - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Single Channel Simulcast one calls the simultaneous transmission of a similar amplitude-modulated and one after that digitally radio Mondiale - procedures of transferred signal in the same (SingleChannel Simulcast - SCS) or a neighbouring channel (MultiChannel Simulcast - MCS).
For this the DRM signal the carrier is modulated in the procedure of the quadrature modulation and modulated on this signal then the similar signal, whereby depending upon for the order of standing range conventional amplitude modulation or To compatible single-sideband modulation can be used.
The Simulcast procedure has the advantage in relation to the pure DRM procedures that also from old To receivers will receive the signal can.

The LFE channel is one tenth of the bandwidth of the other channels and is sometimes erroneously called the subwoofer channel.
Simulcast is the simultaneous transmission of the same television program in both an analog and a digital version using two different channels or frequencies.
Simulcast is also used for the transmission of simultaneous television and Internet services, the transmission of analog and digital radio broadcasts, and the transmission of television programs in different screen formats such as the traditional format and the wide screen format.

In March 2003 the BBC announced that from the end of May 2003 (subsequently deferred to July 14) it intended to transmit all eight of its domestic television channels (including the 15 regional variations of BBC ONE) unencrypted from the Astra 2D satellite.
The channel was due to launch on 20 April, 1964, but was put off the air by a massive power failure that affected much of London, caused by a fire at Battersea Power Station.
In December of 1967 it became the first regular television channel in Europe to broadcast in colour, using the German PAL system that is still in use today although being gradually superseded by digital systems.

 SIMULCAST CONCEPT
The location of the simulcast controller (computer) and other equipment (including the voters) that makes simulcast possible is called the “prime site” and may, or may not, be located at one of the remote site locations.
Simulcast has a limited number of sites it can handle (limiting the amount of signal delivered to the coverage area- with larger areas getting less signal for a given number of sites).
Simulcast requires a transmitter at every site for each frequency whether or not that site is required for a particular call (increases the system cost), and requires exclusive frequency usage in a very large area (limiting the ability to reuse frequencies- an FCC issue).

Several things affect the number of channels including the number of broadcast frequencies (transponders) licensed by each provider, the number of channels packed into each transponder frequency, the number and power of the satellites in place at each location, whether or not they broadcast in high definition, and other factors.
The number of channels which can be compressed onto each transponder depends on a lot of things such as desired image quality, degree of allowable visible artifacts, frame rate of the source material, amount of movement in the source material, and the amount of error correction overhead.

In particular, we believe that the Commission's current channel election and replication requirements and deadlines may be imposing substantial burdens on broadcasters without sufficient countervailing public benefits, and may in fact be contributing to difficulties faced by a substantial number of stations in meeting their DTV construction deadlines.
These replication protection and channel election deadlines may be earlier than but will in no event be later than the latest of either the end of 2006 or the date by which 85% of the television households in a licensee's market are capable of receiving the signals of digital broadcast stations.
Although some stations received transition channels out of the core, and a few have both their NTSC and DTV channels outside the core, we believe that there will be sufficient spectrum so that at the end of the transition all DTV stations will be operating on core channels.

We invite comment on whether we should require that broadcasters also change their channels at the end of the transition period, so that the spectrum that will ultimately be recovered can be aggregated into contiguous blocks, thereby increasing its potential value for new, as yet undefined, uses.
We ask whether we should impose a modified simulcast requirement, under which an ATV licensee would be required to simulcast the programming presented on the NTSC channel (with the exception of commercials and promotions) on a program service of the ATV channel.
The Commission previously decided that ATV would be introduced by assigning existing broadcasters a temporary channel on which to operate an ATV station during a transition period and that the spectrum needed for the transition would be obtained from the spectrum currently allocated to broadcasting.

Critics of must carry requirements state that the primary beneficiaries include marginal television broadcasters, such as home shopping channels, while cable operators incur an unnecessary handicap in having to abandon carriage of additional video content due to the compulsory carriage of signals few viewers would care to watch.
The Order states that mandatory dual carriage was not necessary either to advance the governmental interests as identified by Congress and the Supreme Court, or to facilitate the transition from analog to digital television: We therefore affirm our earlier conclusion that the Act is ambiguous on the issue of dual carriage.
