BBC - Radio 1 - News - Single and singled out?
I think its harder for a single girl than it is for a guy as guys will make an effort to see their friends just on their own where as girls only want to do things in couples and therefore I don't get invited.
Anyway, I feel that I have been singled out a lot in my group of friends, but there is a hardcore bunch that will ditch their ladies for a gents night out.
As for couples with single friends like Rossco, either play cupid and match them up or just be clear that you have plans for the evening and make a definate date for the next time you will all get together.

ScienceDaily: Singled Out: Spotting Mutant Neurons In Normal Brains Offers Clues To Fragile X
Since the early 1990's, it has been known that the disease results from the loss of a single gene and, for the last several years, that the Fragile X gene product regulates the expression of other proteins.
Employing a fruit fly model of the disease, the researchers utilized a new technique that allows the generation of single mutant nerve cells that are marked by their expression of a glowing fluorescent protein, making these nerve cells distinctly visible in an otherwise normal brain.
In their experiments, the researchers were able to observe mutant nerve cells that either completely lacked the Fragile X protein or overexpressed it, the fluorescent protein label allowing the entire architecture of these neurons to be visualized in the intact brain.

Brazil's Gay Men Appear Singled Out, Attacked for Living Ordinary Lives
That "problem" was displayed in graphic detail when local newspapers published a photograph of a 20-year-old man who had been disemboweled, his eyes gouged out, and said the reason for his murder was the fact that he was gay.
Authorities said 125 gay men were murdered last year for what might seem to be an odd transgression in a c percent of Brazilian homosexuals interviewed said they had suffered some type of violence as a result of their sexual orientation.
The problem, gay activists say, is that while Brazilians celebrate flamboyant homosexuality as harmless fun with little connection to their own lives, many also fear everyday homosexuality as a threat to the country's Roman Catholic and now increasingly evangelical Protestant norms, as well as its understated Latin machismo.

Many members of Congress balked at the FCC's proposals, and a vocal minority suggested they would exercise their authority to prevent the FCC from putting the regulations into effect.

Chairman Powell's attempt to change the media ownership rules ran into trouble partly because the FCC held only a single public hearing, in Richmond, Virginia, and the plans foundered in 2003 as they became more public.
