Singularitarianism is a moral philosophy based upon the belief that a technological singularity - the technological creation of smarter-than-human intelligence - is possible, advocating deliberate action to effect and ensure its safety.
A Singularitarian believes the Singularity should benefit the entire world, and should not be a means to benefit any specific individual or group.
Singularitarians believe that reaching the Singularity swiftly and safely is the best possible way to minimize net existential risk and maximize positive utility in the world.

 Singularitarian Principles 1.0 (Extended)
A Singularitarian is friend, advocate, defender, and agent of the future known as the Singularity.
I'm confident this isn't the case, mostly because the whole idea of some event occurring to some-but-not-all of humanity is anthropomorphic, even "gaussiomorphic" (8), because it implies forces at balance with the world; it implies forces that vary in the same way that humans vary, so that the forces affect some humans but not others.
Singularitarian grew out of transhumanist anarchocapitalism, which grew out of libertarian science fiction, which grew out of science and engineering, and we all tend to feel very strongly about attempts to suppress the development of technology.

Singularitarianism - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In his essay "Singularitarian Principles" (2000), Eliezer Yudkowsky writes that there are four qualities that define a Singularitarian:
Eliezer Yudkowsky - the originator of the Friendly AI, Seed AI theories and co-founder of the modern Singularitarianism movement.
Seed AI - a theory closely associated with Singularitarianism.

 Integral Singularity » Integral Singularitarianism
Anyways, Vince is a fellow singularitarian (someone who believes in the technological singularity), which means he believes that in some way or another life will be entirely different in fifty years than it is today (Ray Kurzweil has pegged the singularity at around 2045).
The claim of integral singularitarianism is that the evolution in all four quadrants, that is in the psychological, cultural, institutional, and behavioral/biological realms, is happening exponentially.
My logical case for integral singularitarianism in short assumes both a world where the law of accelerating returns for technology actually exists, and a universe where mutual causality or dependent co-arising exists (that is the co-arising of interior and exterior, subject and object).

Singularitarian Community - Introduction to Singularitarianism
Singularitarians want to take human civilization to the next step, by creating a superintelligence - an intellect that is much smarter than the best human brains in every field, including scientific creativity, general wisdom and social skills.
Once superintelligence is created, it could apply itself to solving humanitarian problems, like cancer, aging, poverty, war, and the improvement of its own design.
Because the path involving the direct enhancement of human brains is too expensive and risky, Singularitarians plan to build a mind from scratch.

 Transhuman Ideological Variations
Singularitarian transhumanists focus on transhuman technologies that can potentially lead to the rise of smarter-than-human intelligence, such as brain-computer interfacing and Artificial Intelligence.
Since our present-day intelligence is ultimately the source of our technology, singularitarians expect the technological creation of smarter-than-human intelligence to be a watershed moment in history, with an impact more comparable to the rise of Homo sapiens than to past breakthroughs in technology.
Singularitarians stress the importance of ensuring that such intelligence be coupled with ethical sensibility (Yudkowsky 2003) [see also “What is the singularity?”;].

 Transtopia -- FAQ
Singularitarian: originally defined by Mark Plus ('91) to mean 'one who believes the concept of a technological singularity', this term has since been redefined to mean 'Singularity activist' or 'friend of the Singularity'; that is, one who acts so as to bring about a Singularity.
Singularitarianism: the (philosophical) movement, spearheaded by The Singularity Institute for Artificial Intelligence (SingInst, founded by Eliezer 'father of modern Singularitarianism' Yudkowsky), which wants to bring about a 'benevolent' technological Singularity a.s.a.p.
Transtopian Singularitarianism (T-Sing) is in many ways the opposite of Y-Sing: it is self-interest and contract group based.

 MEANING OF TRANSHUMAN
Huxley envisioned a new philosophy under this name that was based on the proposition that humans had the duty, and the destiny, to "take charge" of evolution by transcending their biological limitations.
In his forthcoming 2005 treatise, The Singularity is Near, Kurzweil calculates, based on many decades of intersecting trends, that humanity is on the cusp of merging with computational technology.
Similarly, Ray Kurzweil's extrapolation of the idea that hybridization with computer technology is our evolutionary future has as one of its thousands of memetides Alan Turing's 1930s-era hypothesis (and eponymous test) that a computer could pass as a human.

The Speculist: Lexicon for the Singularity - Aware
Thanks to the new Kurzweil book, the terms Singularitarian and Singularitarianism are being introduced to many in the general reading public.
As for Singularitarianism, I believe that's what's needed is several terms to include several different approaches to the Singularity.
Of course, we can still keep Singularitarian as the formal, correct term for Spiker and Singularitarianism as the formal, correct term for the accompanying belief system.

 Singularity FAQ
Of course that might not be the case - there may be many unforeseen events so catastrophic that the entirety of human evolution becomes inhibited, particularly if nanotechnology arrives on the scene before the Singularity.
Among Singularity-aware futurists and singularitarians there is no consensus prediction date for the Singularity but increasingly predictions are getting less and less conservative as more evidence accumulates for the impact of the synergism in technology and the rate of technological acceleration is more clearly charted.
This site informs you that the Singularity could happen within your lifetime and suggests that the more you read about it and the more you look into accelerating change going on in the technology sector (which is increasely becoming the driver of all human endeavors), the more you may consider this

At first blush, Singularitarianism may seem like a religion and has even earned from critics the label “Rapture of the Nerds.” But Singularitarianism differs from religion in one crucial aspect: its belief doesn’t depend on a supernatural power influencing human affairs.
Singularitarians rely only on the evidence and patterns scientists have tested and observed in the natural universe.
All said, however, the article does a good job at describing what the Technological Singularity is about and what it might mean for us.

One would probably end up convincing more people of the harmful falsehoods that FAI would be the Anti-Christ or that Singularitarianism is a technoreligion than of Yeshua ben Yosef returning as AGI.

Amazon.com: Profile For Arthur P. Smith: Reviews   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-09-08)
Among technological optimists in the world, the "singularitarians", led by Ray Kurzweil, are perhaps the most extravagant, extrapolating from the growth in information technologies of the past century.
In particular, his outline for "brain uploading" depends on nanomachines capable of penetrating the brain and recording patterns there, a rather invasive (but believable) approach.
At times, Kurzweil's book veers into millenial apocalypsism, at one point describing "Singularitarianism" as an almost religious belief in the ability to be uploaded and live forever, and listing several articles of faith.

This theory has been developed by Eliezer Yudkowsky.
The theory starts from the supposition that, in the future, AIs with intellectual and practical abilites vastly superior to humans will be created, or rather will create themselves from seed AI (a belief common in transhumanism and, obviously, Singularitarianism).
The problem then becomes how these AIs will behave with human beings, and if they will have a morality (if any) similar to ours.
