Kit Deslauriers's first international climbing expedition was to Peak Siniolchu (6,887 m) in Sikkim, India during April/May of 1998.
It was during this trip, as she moved through the majestic Himalaya, that Kit DesLauriers realized how much she wished she had her skis with her.

The Rest Camp is situated right opposite Siniolchu and has a fabulous view of one of the most beautiful mountains in Sikkim.
This is one of the finest walks with the Siniolchu, Simvo, Twins and the Khangchendzonga are some of the giants that dominate the horizon.
Rest at the camp, known as the Green Lake Plain, the name being derived from a small tarn at the eastern end where on clear morning the reflection of the Khangchendzonga is seen in the waters.

Besides the awesome Kanchenjunga, they include the Kabru, Kabru Dome, Siniolchu, Pandim, Simvo, Jonsang, Kanglakhang, Pyramid, Talung and the twins of Rathong and Kokthang.
Of these, the Pandim and the Siniolchu are especially beautiful.
The North-eastern border is dominated by the Paunhri peak at 22,000 feet.

The Himalayan mountains around the Darjeeling-Sikkim region boasts of the highest peaks of the world like the Kanchenjungha, Kabru, Janu, Siniolchu etc. There are more than 12 peaks rising above 20,000 feet.
The prominent object in the mountain landscape that lies open to view at Darjeeling and Sikkim is the great Kanchenjunga rising to 28,146 feet, which with its twin peaks towers above a majestic line of snowy summits in which are seven other peaks rising above 22,000 feet and none below 15,000 feet.
Kabru (24,015 feet) with crest like a tent, and Jannu (25,300 feet) flank Kunchenjunga on the west; and on the east the best known peaks are Pandim (22,020 feet), Nursing (19,150 feet), Siniolchu (22,520 feet) and Kangchenjau (22,509 feet).

However, regretfully, some of the finest snow-bound mountainous areas with loftey passes, serene glacial lakes and lush landscape remained out-of bounds for me and have not been opened for tourists to date.
The entire town is beautifully landscaped, occupying the west side of a long ridge flaking the meandering Ranipool.
My place of stay, Tourist or siniolchu Lodge, was close to the 200 year old Enchey monastery perhaps the best place around for a view of the majestic Kanchenjunga range.
