Sinope flourished as the Black Sea port of a caravan route that led from the upper Euphrates valley ( Herodotus 1.72; 2.34), issued its own coinage, founded colonies, and gave its name to a red arsenic sulfate mined in Cappadocia, called "Sinopic red earth" ( Miltos Sinôpikê) or sinople.
Sinop is a city with a population of 47,000 on the coast of the Black Sea, in the modern region of Galatia in modern-day northern Turkey, historically known as Sinope.
In November 1853, during the Crimean War, the Russians, under the command of admiral Nakhimov, destroyed the entire Ottoman fleet in Sinop, ending the Ottoman naval power.

Surveys were also carried out in the vicinity of Erbaa-Tokat district in the third province to locate new ancient mines from which gold, silver, lead, copper or arsenic had been obtained; but they yielded no positive results.

During the month of June 1999, we examined some Bronze Age pottery held in the Kastamonu and Sinop Museums.
In conclusion, it is proposed that these vessels should be attributed to the Transitional period.
