The Right Honourable Sir Lynden Oscar Pindling (22 March 1930-26 August 2000) served as the first fl Premier of the Colony of the Bahama Islands, 1967-1973 and as Prime Minister of the Bahamas, 1973-1992, as leader of the Progressive Liberal Party (PLP).
Pindling led the Bahamas to fl majority rule in 1967 and indepedence in 1973.
Pindling conceded defeat with the words "the people of this great little democracy have spoken in a most dignified and eloquent manner, and 'the voice of the people, is the voice of God'".

Pindling received his LLB from King's College, London University in August 1952, was called to the bar of the Middle Temple in February 1953 and returned to Nassau at the end of June, 1953 to be called to the Bahamas Bar.

Pindling led his country to Independence from Britain in 1973 and against all the predictions of the naysayers set his country on a course of prosperity based principally on tourism earnings which continues to the present.
