LANGUAGE LEARNING article--What? Me Worry About Language Learning?
And languages which serve as the vehicles for complex societies may have much larger vocabularies to master than languages which serve societies in which there are not multiple occupations and where science and technology and other areas of higher learning are not much discussed.
You feel that "languages are not really your thing", but you hope to learn the language of this group in connection with a long-term goal of going to their country of origin.
Furthermore, the language has several varieties, and which one you use depends on how well you know the person you are talking to and what your status is relative to her status.

Omniglot - the blog » Blog Archive » How old is your language?
When researching the background of the Siraiki language, which I’ve just added to Omniglot, I came across a claim that this language might be “the oldest language … of the world”.
Languages change all the time and when you look at the history of a particular language, you can’t say with any degree of certainity exactly when it first appeared.
I agree, it is difficult, and rather pointless, to claim the age of a language as it is a living thing and is constantly changing.

Siraiki is an Indo-Hittite, and therefore an Indo-European language, with its original pre- Islamic word-hoard deriving largely from the three stages of Vedic.
For a variety of reasons, Siraiki has never been the language of the literate, political, and religious elite and priesthood who, since they were often foreigners, at various times, chose the so called classical languages such as Sanskrit, Arabic, Farsi, and later on, English and Urdu as their mode of written communication.
Siraiki 'marsia', recited in a combination of verse and poetic prose, is so popular that its professional and semi-professional reciters are in great demand in all parts of Pakistan during the month of Muharam.
