		It is the result of the 1964 merge of Øvre Sirdal, Tonstad, and Haugomgrenda municipalities.
		Lying inland, Sirdal borders on Aust-Agder county to the north east and Rogaland to the west.
		Sirdal is the largest area municipality in Vest-Agder.
